Rev. EBENEZER McGOWAN born London, England, Feb. 17, 1767; died April 30, 1850; came to the U. S., 1784, settling in Dinwiddie Co., Va. where he married Sally Still, 1786, and had children, James (deceased, with family); John and Elizabeth (who died young); he married, secondly, Frances Baugh, 1797; thirteen children; moved to Mecklenburg Co., Va. where he mercantiled with Samuel Goode, for whom he named one of his own sons, Samuel Goode McGowan; moved to Rutherford Co., Tenn., 1816, where he died. He was a local Methodist preacher for about sixty years.

Rev. JAMES B. HOLLIS born Rutherford Co., Tenn., Oct. 14, 1810; died Coffee Co., Tenn., June 24, 1850; son of David and Elizabeth Hollis; married Martha Saffle, 1827. Methodist preacher in Tennessee Conference; ordained deacon, 1840; ordained elder, 1842; several children.
Rev. STEPHEN HEARN born Montgomery Co., N.C., Jan. 8, 1796; married Prudence Coggins, 1818 and moved to Madison Co., Tenn.; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, August 23, 1828; ordained deacon, Nov. 8, 1840; died April 19, 1850.
Rev. POMPEY DANIEL (a black man) died Hardin Co., Tenn., July 5, 1850 in the 90th year of his age and 59th as a local Methodist preacher (having gotten his first license to preach from Bishop Francis Asbury).

JOSIAH WHITAKER died in Harrison Co., Ky., August 21, 1850; born Baltimore, Maryland, Nov. 30, 1799; moved with parents to Boubon County, Ky., November 1792; joined Methodist Church, March 1793; married Susan Honey, April 4, 1799; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, 1813; a local preacher until 1818 when he entered the Ohio Conference as an itinerant preacher; filled numerous appointments, including a mission for black folk in Lexington, Ky., 1837-1839; retired in 1846; he provided a permanent home for his family although he traveled far from home at times.

Major JOHN BOSTICK, native of Virginia, served in the Revolutionary War; had a large family, including a son, Rev. Absalom Bostick (dec.). Died Williamson Co., Tenn., Sept. 20, 1850. [This surname was often pronounced Bostick and as such this man was listed as John Bostick, applying (R1040) for a Revolutionary War pension, in which it was mentioned that he had lived in Surry Co., N.C. about the time of the Revolution; later lived in Richmond Co., N.C. but moved to Williamson Co., Tennessee where he died. He had a number of children, whom he mentioned in his last will and testament.]
