According to the Maysville, Ky. EAGLE, a farmer named THOMAS HELM had a man named WADE WILLOUGHBY farming with him on shares, who also boarded with Helm as did Willoughby's 14 year old son. Helm hired another worker to assist on the farm, angering Willoughby, who beat up the man. On June 24, 1847 Helm told Willoughby to leave his place, threatening to shoot him if he and his son didn't leave in five months. He followed through on his threat but mis-aimed and killed the boy instead and Helm took a knife to kill the father who wrested it away from him and killed his attacker instead. "Both parties were under the influence of liquor at the time."
