Rev. J. A. EDWARDS, N.C. Conference, died Hookerton, N.C., June 21, 1912; the oldest living graduate of Trinity College [later Duke University] when he died.

Dr. WILLIAM P. IVEY, graduate of Trinity College and University of Maryland, died Lenoir, N.C., June 28, 1912 aged 58 years.

MINNIE KIRKPATRICK KIRKLAND daughter of Judge S. J. and Dora H. Kirkpatrick, wife of W. C. Kirkland, born near Jonesboro, Tenn., July 9, 1867; died Covington, La., May 18, 1911; honors graduate of Peabody Normal College.

WILLIAM PATTILLO TURNER born Ga., April 6, 1864; died Hiroshima, Japan, Mar. 10, 1912; married Alice Burke; three children. He was a Methodist missionary to Japan. Buried in Kaugamo burial ground, Kobe, Japan.

HELEN PERRY KYLE born Franklin Co., N.C., Dec. 3, 1823; died Arkadelphia, Ark., May 26, 1912; married Gayle H. Kyle, Madison Co., Tenn.; seven children.

Dr. ROBERT PAINE RANSOM son of Rev. Richard P. Ransom and Frances Ban [sic] Ransom, born Dec. 9, 1857; alumnus, Emory-Henry College and graduate, University of Nashville (medical department), 1879; settled in Williamston, S.C., 1887; married Lillie Gray, Jan. 3, 1883; six children. Died May 30, 1912.

BETTIE ALLEN WHITEAKER son of William and Hannah Allen born Giles Co., Va.; married A. B Whiteaker, Bristol, Tenn., Feb. 18, 1891; died May 22, 1912; daughters, Mary Allen and Nannie Frances Whiteaker.

A tribute of respect for memory of W. W. WHIELSON who died May 31, 1912; by Wesley Bible Class, Johnson Memorial Church, Huntington, W. Va., of which he had been a member; undated.

Rev. Dr. ROBERT WATKINS LOVETT born Nov. 11, 1818; died Screven, Ga., July 3, 1912; graduate, Emory College, 1843; husband and father (six children).

Dr. ROBERT N. HARTLEY died Ilkley, England, May 21, 1912.

Rev. J. H. EVANS, DD, son of Francis and Martha Evans, born Hertford Co., N.C., Sept. 15, 1834; died Jackson, Tenn., May 10, 1912; married Valeria Standefer, July 17, 1859; two children surviving, Robert Evans and Miss Walker Evans; a son, Joseph Evans, died years ago; he began his Methodist ministry in the Memphis Conference in 1856; a presiding elder for twenty-three years.

Rev. F. W. NOLAND son of Rev. Stephen and Amanda Miller Noland, born July 24, 1843; served in Confederate army; licensed to preach in Methodist church, Feb. 9, 1867; married Emma Doty, Dec. 4, 1873; became a banker; died Mar. 15, 1912; four children.

MARY IRBY DU PIE born Huntsville, Ala., Jan. 6, 1837; died Nashville, Tenn., June 22, 1912; her father, Colonel Samuel Peete, was a prominent citizen; her mother died when she was an infant and she was reared by her grandmother, Mrs. Benjamin Pope; married Cornelius Du Pie, 1869; had an only son who died aged 30 years. Her sister married W. B. Bate, a U.S. senator.

ROBERT SAMUEL STREET born Va., May 13, 1836; married Mary Jane Brown, Jan. 14, 1866; died Wellington, Texas, March 13, 1912.

"In Memoriam", JANE STEVENS BARTON born Mecklenburg Co., N.C., Dec. 13, 1824; died July 4, 1912; married James Lous Barton (died 1872) and moved to Ark. in 1848; nine children. Her son, Louis S. Barton, Dallas, Texas submitted her obituary.

MARTHA JANE LAMB STEWART born August 13, 1836; daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth Lamb; wife of William D. Stewart; married Sept. 26, 1852; died July 6, 1912. Children: John R., James Emmett, William J., Sophronia, Vesta and Letitia.

ANNE J. HAMILL, mother of Dr. H. M. Hamill, died Cullman, Ala., Aug. 29, 1912; was within a few weeks of her 93rd birthday; widow of Dr. Edward J. Hamill who died in 1891. [Additional obituary, Sept. 13, 1912 issue, page 31, states that she was born near Elberton, Ga., Oct. 2, 1819; dau. of Colonel Holman F. Simmons, Talladega Co., Ala., a planter who died in 1870 and Sarah Burns Simmons, a descendant of the poet, Robert Burns. Her children were Dr. Edward who died in 1910 and Dr. Howard M. Hamill and others.]

HUGH B. WRIGHT born Elkin, N.C., July 3, 1838; died May 8, 1912; wounded, crippled when serving in Confederate army; married Mrs. Sallie Gwyn, 1872; one child, Mrs. Julia Stanton, Memphis.

Dr. ABRAHAM RHEA died in Whiteville, Hardeman Co., Tenn., Sept. 9, 1912 aged 82 1/2 years old. Life-long Presbyterian.

Lea (died Nov. 6, 1892), April 4, 1859; nine children; (2) Mrs. S. A. Haynes; June 20, 1896.

THOMAS JACKSON RICHARDSON son of John and Mary Wright Richardson, born Haywood Co., Tenn., August 7, 1853; died Whiteville, Tenn., Oct. 19, 1912; married Elizabeth Bishop, 1875; children, Ethel, Fletcher, Lucy, John and Frank.

Rev. WILLIAM CECIL CHIDDIX born Tazewell Co., Va., Sept. 27, 1850; died West York, Ill., Oct. 12, 1912; married Eliza J. McBride, Sept. 25, 1878; twin daus., Myrtie (dec) and Minnie; besides his own children, he helped to rear a niece, Edna B. Thompson. Had a brother, John B. Chiddix; half-brothers, James and Leander Chiddix; half-sisters, Amanda and Elizabeth. Methodist preacher.

The oldest subscriber to the NASHVILLE CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE was Colonel YOUNG BURGHER, Honey Grove, Texas, who celebrated his 91st birthday, Nov. 19, 1912, hence born Nov. 19, 1821. Hale and active, head of the list of stewards in McKenzie Methodist Church.

Hon. JAMES R. HINDMAN, lieutenant-governor of Kentucky, born Adair Co., Ky., Feb. 4, 1839; served in the Federal army; served several terms in the Kentucky legislature; died Columbia, Ky., Oct. 14, 1912; surviving were his widow and son, Dr. Robert Y. Hindman.

Dr. WILLIAM W. SMITH, president of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, died Lynchburg, Va., Nov. 29, 1912; born Warrenton, Va., March 12, 1845; served in Confederate army; had been president of several educational institutions.

Dr. WILLIAM J. VAUGHAN born Wilcox Co., Ala., 1834; graduate, University of Alabama, 1857 and gained his masters there, 1860; served in Confederate army; head of several educational institutions but became a member of the Vanderbilt University faculty in 1882. Died Dec. 17, 1912.

Rev. JAMES CLINE was the oldest Methodist preacher in the Little Rock Conference, aged over 80 years; an 1855 graduate of Oglethorpe University; had been a preacher for fifty-seven years.
