WOODS-TREADWELL CEMETERY
(Bunch Cemetery)Wood-Treadwell Cemetery, April 1999
Woods-Treadwell Cemetery is in the southeastern corner of the U.S.G.S. Pope quadrangle where Woods Branch and Flowers Branch join. It is labeled Bunch Cemetery on the quadrangle, which probably means that in the late 1930s the oldest identifiable death date belonged to someone named Bunch. The only identifiable Bunch burial now was in 2000. Woods-Treadwell Cemetery has three old-style burial cairns. In 1988 a large portion of the eastern side of the cemetery had fieldstones with no markings. By 1999 most of the fieldstones on the eastern side of the cemetery had been replaced with concrete blocks, perhaps to try to forestall new burials in this already used older area of the cemetery; reuse of space is a problem in the western part of the cemetery.
Leo and David Donahue recorded this Woods-Treadwell Cemetery December 25, 1988. David Donahue updated it April 17, 1999 and checked and updated it Sept. 2, 2004.
