DEAN CEMETERY

Dean Cemetery, October 2001

 

            Dean Cemetery is located on Sugar Hill Road off Old Highway 13 south of Linden. At first glance it seems to be a recent community cemetery. However, it dates at least to 1896. The three oldest identified burials are 1896, 1908, and 1947. All remaining burials occurred 1958 or later. The number of markers increased almost 50% between 1992 and 2001. Only two burials were unidentified in 2001, one marked with a temporary marker plate without information and one depression marked with a fieldstone. However, the access drive could have been built over some unmarked graves as it in 2001 it passed next to the fieldstone marked grave and between the two oldest identified burials. [The fieldstone was not in the cemetery in 2004.]

            David Donahue recorded Dean Cemetery October 28, 2001 and checked and updated it September 30, 2004. Mary (Stewart) Bowen and Melissa (Snyder) Bowen recorded the cemetery in the early 1990s. Their record appears in Mary Bowen's Perry County, Tennessee Cemetery Records (Vol. I). This earlier record is referred to as Bowen in the notes below.
