ARNOLD CEMETERY. Located on Hwy 50E 1.2 miles east of the Hickman
County line on the farm of Martin and Lynn Hatten known locally as
"the old Hedge Place". There are only two grave stones.
Arnold, David Co F 42 Tenn Inf CSA Oct 16 1832-Oct 27 1913
Warren, Add J. son of S.H. and R.A. Sept 28 1887-Jan 16, 1888
"Brother has gone to be an angel" (this stone is broken).
According to Spence's History of Hickman County, James and Mary
Arnold settled on Peter Branch of Sulphur Fork in 1820. "He was a
great hunter, and, although a poor man, he paid his debts
punctually with the skins and meat of the wild animals he killed.
In making trades, he would not promise to pay in money, but would
promise so many deer skins, wolf skins, or deer horns. One of the
last bears killed in Hickman County was killed in 1822 by James
Arnold."
The 1850 census lists James as 55 years old (born in 1795 in
Georgia) and Mary age 45 (born about 1805). Their children in the
home at that time were: David 20, George 18, Martha 16, Catherine
15, Frances 12, and Jaricy 9. Living nearby were older sons,
Jonathan (1820) and Gideon (1825).
David Arnold was born Oct 16, 1832 in Tennessee and had three
wives. In the 1860 census, his wife is named Narcissa, who was
born c1836, with children: Sarah E 8, Martha J 6, Rhoda A 3,
Malinda A 10/12. It is unknown whether Narcissa was the first or
second wife and who was the mother of the children. David married
for the third time on 15 April 1871 to Sophronia A. Curl. They had
no children.
David served as a private in the Civil War in the 42nd Tenn
Inf. along with his brother, Gideon. He was taken prisoner at the
Battle of Fort Donelson and was sent to Camp Douglas in south
Chicago. After the exchange of prisoners, he fought many battles
until the end of the War.
On 25 June 1874, David's daughter, Rhoda, married Samuel
Warren. It is their son, Add, who is buried beside his grandfather,
David.

as follows; "Located on land Map 206, Tract #1 elevation 380, 7

have been buried here, but the exact location of the graves was not

3. Mrs Morretts Guthart

5. Charlie Guthart
The above information was given by Cora Nunley, great granddaughter
of Charles Gotthardt, granddaughter of Agnes Gotthardt, daughter of
John Gotthardt.
Charles Fredrick Gotthardt was born in Saxony in 1811. He
purchased land in Perry County in 1837 at a tax sale. He started
the first tannery in Perry County in 1843 at Rattail Landing. This
land is now included in Mousetail Landing State Rustic Park. The
cemetery is on park land but the exact location is unknown.
Charles had children in Saxony who came to America as they
reached 21 years of age. 1) Carl Heinrich Gotthardt came in 1855
and settled in Decatur County, later moving to KY. 2) Agnes
Gotthardt came to Perry County in 1857 and lived with her father.
She remained unmarried but had children Elizabeth (c1862) John
(1865) Charles (1871). 3) Fredrick Moritz Gotthardt arrived in 1859
and married Margaret Jane Lunsford of Decatur County. He served the
Union during the Civil War. He died soon after the war and his widow remarried in Decatur County. 4) Hermann Adolph Gotthardt, the
youngest son, married Martha Caroline Dickson in Perry County. They
had eight children, most of them born in Perry County. The family
PERRY COUNTY CEMETERY RECORD...VOL II PAGE 8
later moved to KY.
Based on the above, the information on the TVA report is in
error. Charles Gotthardt was probably buried here on his own land.
Also, Moritz was probably buried beside his father. His wife
remarried and was buried in Decatur County by her second husband.
The other graves were probably the illegimate children of Agnes,
all died as children except John, her mulatto son, with whom she
lived during her last years.
This cemetery was probably first called the Gotthardt Cemetery
and the named changed wheh the Conders bought the land.
It is unknown whether anyone other than Gotthardts were buried
here.

DAVIDSON-HESTER CEMETERY--Located just north of Lobelville on 1st
Avenue extended. It is on land belonging to Dr. Kenneth Salhany and
permission must first be obtained from him as there is a locked
gate at entrance to hiS home. There are two sections to the
cemetery. The older section has 6 marked stones and several graves
marked only with fieldstones. The newer section, fenced separately,
should probably be called the Hester Cemetery. Both are clean and
well maintained.

area now known as DePriest Bend. According to the 1860 census, the
family consisted of Louis Charlemaine Deauinanette, (who became a
USA citizen in 1852) his wife,Clara Adele Patri, son, Henry E.
(1837) daughters, Leona Louisa (1844) and Adell (1851). Leora
