C.W. Joyner, JACKSON

Services for C.W. Joyner, 83, a life long farmer, will be held at Antioch Baptist Church near Humboldt, at 3:00 p.m. today, September 2, 2001.

Mr. Joyner was the son of the late Arden J. Joyner and Carrie Hill Joyner and was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alberta Sanders Joyner.

He is survived by his children Ann Joyner of Three Way, Joe Joyner of Gleason, Jack Joyner and wife Rinda of Gibson and Jimmy Joyner of Three Way; three grand-children, Carrie Joyner of Gleason, Merrie Jo Joyner of Gleason and Tonya Brubaker of Gibson.

Mr. Joyner was a pioneer in cotton production in Tennessee by purchasing the fist mechanical cotton picker in the state in 1950, and is thought to be the first farmer to defoliate cotton with a chemical in 1950. He graduated from Browns High School in east Madison County, and graduated from West TN Business College in Jackson. He was a long-time member of Antioch Baptist Church.
