Located about four hundred feet from Riverside Drive Extended on east side of this road about two and a half miles north of Medon, Tennessee. Jonathan Smith and John L. Rochelle, who owns the land the cemetery is on, visited this cemetery, January 14, 1996 and found that the tombstones there had been vandalized, with only a footstone remaining, inscribed "N. C." Jonathan Smith obtained the names and dates from the tombstones that had stood there from Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Kennon of Shawnee, Oklahoma, who had copied them on a visit to this cemetery in 1979.

THE JACKSON SUN, Jackson, Tenn., January 21, 1876

CURRY — Near Medon in this county on Wednesday last, Jessey Currey, aged 70 years.         Deceased was one if the eldest and best of our citizens. As a neighbor, citizen and christian, he was without approach. His noble and kindly life is overflowing with good deeds, and he leaves behind him a record, without spot or blemish.

The obituary above establishes death date of Jan. 19, 1876, which is the same given in the old Mt. Tabor C. P. Session Book, 1875-1901; rather than Jan. 20 as suggested in the resolutions of respect in the WHIG-TRIBUNE (below).

WHIG-TRIBUNE, Jackson, Tenn., January 29, 1876

At a called meeting of Medon Lodge, No. 166, Free and Accepted Masons, held in their Lodge Room, in the Town of Medon, on the 21st day of January, 1876, the following preamble and resolutions was unanimously adopted:         Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God in his providence to remove from our midst by death, our beloved brother Jesse Currie, who died at his home in this county, on the 20th of January, 1876. Be it therefore:         Resolved, That this community in which he lived has lost one of its most useful citizens; this Lodge one of its oldest and brightest members; his family a father and husband whose place cannot be filled; and the church one of its best and most efficient members.         Resolved, That we, the members of this Lodge, render our most heartfelt sympathies to the stricken family of our deceased brother, in their irreparable loss, and that we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.         Resolved, That a copy of these proceedings be forwarded to the Whig and Tribune for publication, and a copy sent to the family of the deceased, and be spread on our minutes.
