GOODMON OWEN, Madison Co., Tenn. for "love and affection" for his daughter, SYRENA, wife of PATRICK M. DUFFEY and her children, gave her a featherbed, 2 mules. To Syrena's children ALMINA, LATITIA, ALABAMA and RACHEL he gave 3 head of cattle and some livestock. To Syrena's sons JONATHAN F. DUFFEY and HENRY M. DUFFEY he gave 14 head of hogs and other livestock. Oct. 3, 1857. Reg Oct. 3, 1857. No wits.9-10.
Marriage Contract. Whereas LEWIS EVERMON and MARGARET B. A. GREEN were to be married soon, he agreed that she would retain title to the property she brought to their marriage, including a negro boy, John, 23 yrs old, a buggy and an iron gray saddle horse and several hundred dollars then possessed by Jacob Martin and David Green, Jr., adm of the late husband of Margaret's estate. March 26, 1849. Reg Oct. 3, 1857. /Madison Co., Tenn. marriage records show that a license was taken out for this marriage dated March 27, 1849/11-12.
Indenture, Feb. 30, 1855, JAMES M. GATELY, Madison Co., Tenn. sold to HENRY McFARLIN 65 acres (and including one acre belonging to the free church and schoolhouse which is not conveyed in this indenture), for $378. JAMES GATELY, late of Madison Co. by his will gave all his estate in trust and the will of the late JOHN GATELY gave his exec discretionary authority to sell such lands as he deemed advisable, and in this will John Gately made his son, James M. Gately exec of his will. Will was proven May 1852. As such exec, Gately had sold the 65 acres to McFarlin. Reg Oct. 5, 1857. No wits.15-16.

MARY F. DARBY, Yell Co., Ark. on March 9, 1857 sold for $60 to be paid her "annually on the 1st day of January in each and every year during my life-time" by J. V. DARBY and others, her interest in negroes Jim about 16 yrs old; Elizabeth about 18 yrs old, Tom about 13 yrs old, Andrew about 10 yrs old, Jacob about 10 mos. old. Whereas in or about 1844 DUKE HARSTON and GEORGE G. HARSTON had bought a tract of land in Civil Dist. 4, Madison Co., called the Hammond tract, 111 acres, "for the benefit of our mother CELIA HARSTON and her children JARRETT DANIEL HARSTON, WILLIAM F. Marriage Contract. Whereas a marriage was soon to be solemnized between WILLIAM H. JACKSON and FRANCES HAYS, both of Madison Co., Tenn., her property that she brought to marriage would descend to her children, JOHN and MATTIE HAYS from the estate of CHARLES W. JAMES S. SMITH sold to JAMES SANFORD an interest in 150 acres, for $1650, giving him a bond to make a title to Sanford and as he had paid for it, the property was made over to him, but as he was deceased, it would go equally divided to his hrs, through his will, JOHN, ROBERT, MARY ANN, LUCINDA, ELIZABETH and CAROLINE SANFORD. Smith had acquired int. in lands from all hrs except LEWELLEN who married JAMES COPELAND and CAROLINE, wife of STEPHEN R. SPAIN. Now, he sold to LUCINDA AND CAROLINE 2/5s interest in these 150 acres. Harriet about 25 yrs old and her 2 children Allen and Lewis. Diana about 21 yrs old and her child, Martha. Cherry about 45- 50 yrs old and her grandson, George about 2 yrs old. NEWELL T. STRAYHORN, JOHN T. STRAYHORN, WILLIAM POPE and wife, MARY ANN; SAMUEL STRAYHORN, SARAH J. STRAYHORN, ROBERT STRAYHORN, by their grdn, SARAH STRAYHORN, had petitioned the Madison Co. Court to partition lands they held. It appeared Sept. 25, 1852 that the clerk had sold the 100 acres involved to DAVID MERIWETHER, hence title to land was vested in him and divested from the Strayhorn hrs.
