Co. D 48 Ill. Inf. (no dates)Her death certificate states that she died October 15, 1923, aged abt. 82. His death certificate states that he was born in N.Y., July 7, 1839 and died Oct. 16, 1921. Retired civil engineer.
From Mr. Calvin S. McBride of Jackson, an article from THE COLORED AMERICAN, Washington, D.C., January 1900. "A Tennessee Town", Jackson. Mention of black middle-class citizens of Jackson, engaged in education, business, post office, ministry. "Among the elegant residences valued from $1500 to $3000 are . . . Mary Boyce, Hannah Pope . . . Bishop Lane." I have mentioned elsewhere Hannah and Willis Pope. Mary Boyce (1834-1915) & dau. Jennie (1858-1916) are buried in Riverside.
