BEMIS CEMETERY
Bemis Cemetery is located west of the old Bemis Brothers cotton mill and was established in 1900 as part of the Bemis company town. It served white Bemis residents between 1900 and about 1980 (black Bemis residents probably buried at Cane Creek Cemetery). Bemis Cemetery is mostly full, though some burials continue to be made there. The total number of unmarked and unidentified graves is difficult to estimate. About a dozen marker bases have lost their corresponding markers.
David Donahue recorded Bemis Cemetery August 14, 2004. Bemis Cemetery also was recorded in the mid 1980s. This record appears in Cemetery Records of Madison County, Tennessee, Volume I The Southern Half of County (Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society, 1995, pp. 16-22) and is referred to as the 1980s record in notes below.
