ARARAT CEMETERY
Ararat Cemetery is an antebellum cemetery located behind Ararat Baptist Church on U.S. Highway 70 in the Huntersville Community. Ararat Cemetery does not look like an antebellum cemetery. The oldest part of the cemetery is the western third. All fieldstones which may have once marked burials have been removed. All upright late 19th century-early 20th century footstones with initials have been removed. The surface of the antebellum part of the cemetery has been tilled or graded smooth. There is little visible evidence of unmarked graves. The area looks empty even though it probably contains 100 or more unmarked burials.
David Donahue recorded Ararat Cemetery May 11, 2004. Ararat Cemetery also was recorded in 1992. It appears in Cemetery Records of Madison County, Tennessee, Volume I The Southern Half of County (Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society, 1995, pp. 5-10). This is referred to as 1992 record in notes below.
