POST CEMETERY
In TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS FROM BLACK CEMETERIES IN MADISON COUNTY, TENNESSEE, page 135, this cemetery was designated as Old Mt. Pleasant Cemetery as several local people had said the members of this congregation buried their dead here. However, an older black lady, Mrs. Ora Mae Luster (born August 21, 1922), Ozier Road, Pinson, Tennessee, well-versed on black heritage of this area, stated in an interview with the present compiler that from the old-time blacks she knew this burial ground extended back into slavery times and it had always been called POST. The white cemetery adjacent bears the name Lee Cemetery. Also, that it was the burial place for area blacks, including members of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church which church had always been seated where its (Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #1) is now, on Simmons Road in Pinson. Among persons buried here in years past, Mrs. Luster recalled Walter Luster (died 1961), Betty Luster, George Thomas, Jennie Thomas, Ollie Spikner and Sam Spikner (wife and husband), Faddie Luster (died 1959), Bill and Avie Collier. The last person buried here was Novelle Luster who died in 1987. Milt Jones, who with wives, Bessie and Mary, had twenty-two children. One tombstone half-buried in soil, ANNIE BELL SNOW, 1883-1954.
