Montgomery Splits With Webb High

            Montgomery girls won a squeaker from Webb High of McKenzie last week, 49-45, to gain a split with the Carroll County team. Montgomery boys bowed 67-28.

            Delois McDonald sank 20 points for Montgomery. Shirley Priddy got 13, Nellie Carver 12 and Lula Pearson contributed 4.

            Louis Arnold pushed in 15 for Montgomery boys. Holder for Webb was high with 19.

            Montgomery played Friday night at Vincent High School in Henderson where the girls won 96-13. McDonald was high scorer with 35, Carver got 34, Priddy 19 and Pearson 8. The boys lost their game 69-54. Easley was high with 13 and Melton got 11 points.

            Services for Mrs. Lela Anderson were last Thursday afternoon at Parker Chapel All Saints Church with the Rev. M. H. Emory officiating. Burial was in Coopers Grove Cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Anderson, who was 68, died on Dec. 5 in the home of Virgie Priddy of the Coopers Grove community. She was born in Henderson County, but had lived most of her life in Greenwood, Miss. She was a Baptist. She leaves her husband, Bill Anderson of Greenwood, Miss.; two brothers, Harrison Yarbro. of Lexington and Levi Yarbro of Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Lisdey of Jackson and Mrs. Zula Diffey of Lexington.

            Mrs. Willie Mae Williams and Mrs. Ada Douglass attended the 57th 1n'ternatioi~al Convocation meeting at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ, Memphis, recently.

            Mrs. Viola Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Dabbs and family were in Brownsville last Sunday to visit their father and grandfather, Gee Pearson, who has undergone surgery and is doing fine.

            Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Smith of Nashville visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Smith, last weekend.

            Mrs. Linnie Mae Yarbro is in Detroit, Mich, because of the illness of her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Mae Clayton.

            Services for Mrs. Daisy Blondell Harmon Standford, widely-hnown and highly respected Henderson Countain were Sunday afternoon at Lewis Chapel AME Church with the Rev. W. E. Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Standford, who was 62, died early last Thursday at John Gaston Hospital, Memphis. She had been in poor health for several years. She was a Methodist. She leaves two sons, Joe Henry Standford and William Thomas Standford, both of Lexington; two daughters, Mrs. Mary K. McDonald and Miss Bernice Standford, both of Lexington; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Green Harmon Sr. of Lexington; two brothers, Claude (Judge) Harmon of Lexington and Green Harmon Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Alberta Douglas of Lexington and Mrs. Pauline West of Indiantapolis, Ind. and 14 grandchildren.

            Isaac Harmon has returned home from Peoria, Ill, after a visit with his father, Hubie Harmon, who has undergone surgery and is showing improvement.

            Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Edward Hart, Wildersville are the proud parents of a baby girl horn Dec. 8, Lexington Hospital. Congratulations!

            Mrs. Mae L. Johnson and Mrs. Lorene Harmon attended the West Tenn. Central Executive Board meeting at Bolivar last Thursday and represented the St. Paul Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson served as assistant secretary to the meeting. A very wonderful and fruitful time was reported.

            Mrs. Minnie Mae Williams of Chicago, Ill, spent Sunday here visiting relatives and friends. She returned home Sunday night.
