Services for J. L. Brooks, widely-known citizen of Henderson County, were Thursday at Parker Chapel All Saints Church with Rev. J. H. Hordison officiating. Burial in the Lexington Cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge. [His tombstone lists death date as May 19, 1959.]
Mr. Brooks had been ill several months. He was a Mason and Eastern Star. He leaves an uncle, Thomas King and many cousins.
The regular meeting of the St. Paul Baptist Church Missionary Society was at the church Friday. Mrs. Ora Cooper, chairman, presided over the meeting. Devotion was by Mrs. Etta Christian and topic leader was Mrs.. Mae L. Johnson.
Mrs. Caroline Smith has undergone surgery at Memphis Hospital and her condition is satisfactory.
Addie Mae Massey, the daughter of Mrs. Willie Massey, has undergone surgery at Lexington-Henderson County Hospital and is well on the road to recovery.
Willie and James Lee. sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lee of the Pleasant Hill Community, are two of the 32 seniors who received their bachelors of science degree at Lane College, Jackson, on May 25.
Congratulation! The ministers of Lexington and Parsons have organized a Ministerial Alliance.
Youth Day service at the St. Paul Baptist Church are Sunday at 11:30 p.m.

Services for Mrs. Plura Doyle were Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. L. R. Swinney officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Doyle, who had been ill for several years, died Tuesday night at Jackson General Hospital. She leaves her husband, Vird Doyle; a daughter, Mrs. Zetta Lee William; two sons, Leon Doyle and Dickey Doyle; four sisters, Mrs. Ramell Wright, Mrs. Dixie Mae McClerking, Mrs. Earline Westbrook, all of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Jerline Dixon of Chicago; three brothers, Ervin Johnson of Memphis, William B. Johnson and Charles Johnson; a granddaughter, Mrs. Bobbie Nell Bowman.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Witherspoon attended the services of their sister, Mrs. Lena Bell Walters, at St. James Methodist Church in Clifton. Among those from Lexington attending were Mrs. Pauline Wess, Miss Augusta Witherspoon, Mrs. Mary J. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Esau Campbell, Mrs. Mae L. Johnson, Mrs. Pearlie Yarbro and I. D. Montague.
Services for Lem Parker, retired farmer of the Pleasant Hill community, were Tuesday at Timberlake Grove Baptist church with Rev. P. E. Coleman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Stephenson and Shaw Funeral Home in charge. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Parker; his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Wilson; two daughters, Mrs. Ramell Parker and Mrs. Velma Parker, all of Salina, Kans.; three sisters, Mrs. Ervin Timberlake, Mrs. Lila Neely, Mrs. Grace Parker of Huntingdon; four brothers, Hobert, George, Genie and Ollie Parker.
The Rev. J. L. Burkley, minister of the St. Paul Baptist Church filled his regular appointment Sunday morning using for his subject "Heaven and Hell."
The Vacation Bible School of the St. Paul Baptist Church was a great success. A picnic was given Friday by the Sunday School and choirs of the church.
Gloria Harmon has returned after spending her vacation with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Harmon and aunt, Mrs. Hattie Parker of Peoria, Ill.

Mrs. Earline Bennett and family of Indianapolis are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Teague.
Miss Mary Lou Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson, became the bride of Adell Teague, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Teague, on July 20. The Rev. Edwin E. Deusner performed the ceremony.
The annual tea given by the St. Paul Baptist Senior and Young People's Choir on the lawn of Mr. and Mrs. Miller Sherley on Spring Street Sunday evening was a great success. Mrs. Juanette Beasley had charge of the program. Biblical prizes going to Bernell White, Christine Johnson, Mrs. Odeesa Westbrook and Mrs. Mae Johnson. Sandwiches, tea and cookies were served.
Mrs. Elizabeth Buck of Old Decaturville Road gave a shower Saturday evening in honor the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Adell Teague.
The New Hope Baptist Church Jackson, Pleasant Hill Baptis Church Lexington and the local churches of the town were present at the Fellowship Day a the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Sunday. The Rev. L. R. Swinney guest minister, did the preaching.
A delicious dinner was served in the afternoon. The Rev. C. H Smith, minister and members of the church express their thanks and appreciation to everyone for their cooperative spirit.

Rev. L. C. Teague, minister of the Key's Chapel M.E. Church, filled his pulpit Sunday morning and doing some wonderful preaching, using for his theme "I Will Arise and Go to Father."
The Community Beautification Club met in the home of Mrs. Lue Etta Howard Friday night. Mrs. Anna Mae Cathey presided over the meeting. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.

A large crowd from Lexington and surrounding area attended the annual barbecue Saturday at Jacks Creek.
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Pitts and family of Benton Harbor, Mich., spent several days here visiting relatives and friends.
Rev. J. L. Burkley, minister of the St. Paul Baptist Church, is attending the National Baptist Convention, Inc., in Los Angeles. During his absence Sunday, S. W. Beasley, who is versatile, had charge of the church services and did a wonderful job.
Revival is now in progress at the Lewis Chapel AME Church. Presiding Elder G. C. Jenkins will do the preaching, assisted by the minister, Rev. M. M. Cole.

The revival at Lewis Chapel AME Church closed Friday night with presiding Elder G. C. Jenkins of Clarksville who is a great speaker doing some wonderful preaching. The minister, Rev. M. M. Cole, and members express their thanks and appreciation to everyone for the fine spirit of cooperation.
Add Westbrook Jr. of Denver, Colo., is visiting his mother, Mrs. Odessa Westbrook.
A surprise wedding occurred Saturday night. The couple were Murray Flake and Miss Lena Easley. They were happily married in the bride's sister's home, Mrs. Frances Massey. Presiding Elder G. C. Jenkins performed the ceremony in the presence of several friends. Congratulations and best wishes to them.
Jim White entered Lexington-Henderson County Hospital Sunday morning for a checkup and rest.
Mrs. Alberta Douglas was a patient at Lexington-Henderson County Hospital for several days and has improved and will be home during the week.
Miss Dimple Hendrix of Hazel, Ky., visited Mrs. Mary J. Wadley over the weekend.

Services for Pfc. Louis C. Halton were Thursday at Montgomery High School with Rev. D. B. Simmons officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery with Pafford Funeral Home in charge.
Pfc. Halton died Saturday at Washington Hospital after an illness of several months. He was 25. He was in the Army. [His tombstone lists his death on September 26, 1959]
He was a member of the Key's Chapel M.E. Church. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Mary Halton; four brothers, Joseph Halton, Richard Halton, Thomas Halton, all of Lexington and AA-2C Herron Halton of Detroit; four sisters, Miss Lonnie Mae Halton of Memphis, Mrs. Edna Facen of Detroit, Miss Ruby Sue Halton of Nashville and Bettie Halton of Lexington and his grandmother, Mrs. Eliza Halton.

In the afternoon the St. Paul Baptist Church worshipped with the Key's M.E. Church with the Rev. J. L. Burkley doing some wonderful preaching and used for his subject "God is Enough."

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kirby Jr. and Walter Jean Watson of Chicago have returned after visiting a week with their mother, Mrs. Anna Lee Kirby.
Mrs. Lillie B. Hunt, an assistant operator of the Georgia Beauty Shop, attended a beautician meeting in Columbia this week.

Services for Levi Hillyard, widely-known and respected citizen of Henderson County, were Sunday at Key's Chapel M.E. Church with Rev. L. W. Redmond officiating. Burial was in Cathey Cemetery with Cunningham Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Hillyard died Thursday evening in his home on Reeves Street. He had been confined to his bed for several years. He was 82. He was a steward in the Key's Chapel M.E. Church. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Swift of Detroit and Miss Exell Hillyard of Lexington; and three nieces and three nephews.
Johnny Edwards of Chicago spent several days with his sister, Mrs. Bland Robinson.
Mrs. Winnie William of Chicago visited with Mrs. Eula McHaney during the week.
Mrs. Mary Louise Kizer of New York is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Logan Kizer.
Visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Prentice Wadley Sunday were Mrs. Garlland Wadley of Nashville, Lem Jones of Paducah and Prentice Ray Wadley of Peoria.
The Henderson County Colored Fair closed Saturday night with a beautiful arrangement of different exhibits on display in the physical building. The sweepstake prize of $10 lamp from Thomas Furniture Store going to the A. J. Hamilton family.

The Home Circle of the St. Paul Baptist Church met in the home of Mrs. Jessie B. Trice Monday night. The writer, chairman, presided over the meeting and devotional leader, and Mrs. Juanette Beasley, topic leader. The hostess served a delicious refreshment.
The Parker Chapel Baptist Church of Clarksburg observed choir day Sunday. Choirs from Lexington and surrounding areas were present and doing some wonderful singing.
Mrs. Lucille Kizer is visiting her children in Joliet and Chicago, Ill.
The Beech Spring Baptist Choir of Jacks Creek was present at the appreciation program at St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday night. The choir doing some wonderful singing. Mrs. Vashti Cawthon of Henderson was guest speaker, Mrs. Novella Ross had charge of the program.
Mrs. Georgia L. Taylor was rushed to Jackson General Hospital Friday after being stricken with paralysis. Her condition is very serious.

Mrs. Georgia L. Taylor has been carried to a Memphis hospital and her condition is critical.
Many have reported the deep friendship of kindness and good deeds that was shown to them by the late Mrs. Edith Dodd. Their prayers and hearts go out to the family in their sadness.

Pfc. C. H. Carver of the armed forces is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carver before going overseas.
Mrs. Jessie B. Trice spent the holidays in Memphis with her niece, Mrs. Ruby Lee Beady.
Guy Young was called to Cairo, Ill., Wednesday because of the death of his son, Howard Young, who was killed in a car accident.
John Edward Kizer of Nashville spent the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Lee Kirby.
Visitors in the red Young home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Howard of Martin.
Elmer Pinkie Parker is a patient at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital.
Fred Young remains in a serious condition.

Willie H. Lee flew to Pittsburgh, Penn., during the Thanksgiving holidays to visit his brother, James Lee, who is a student at the University of Penn.
Elmer Parker is at home from Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital and is showing improvement.
Howard Carver, who has been a patient at Nashville VA Hospital has returned.
Mrs. Nell A. Kizer is back home from Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital and has somewhat improved.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Kizer and family were in Cairo, Ill., Friday for the funeral services of Mrs. Kizer's brother, Howard Young.
The Appreciation Week at St. Paul Baptist Church was a great success. The Rev. W. M. Monroe of Jackson was guest speaker and delivered a very timely message using for his subject "Where is the Nine?" The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Ollie S. Pearson, did some wonderful singing. Mrs. Lorene Harmon was chairman of the program.
Women Day will be observed at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist church Sunday at 3 p.m. Mrs. C. H. Smith of Jackson will be guest speaker. Mrs. Eula Mae Kennedy is general chairman and Mrs. Georgia Mae Cathey, co-chairman.

Services for Mrs. Mandy Massey, widely-known citizen of Henderson County, were Sunday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. W. M. Monroe officiating. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery with Cunningham and Grover Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Massey, who was 93, died Monday night at her home on Derryberry St. She had been ill for several years. She was a Baptist.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ida Hall of Memphis, Miss Alphia Massey of Lexington; two sons, Reuben Massey and Leaden Tuna Massey both of Peoria, Ill; a sister, Mrs. Nina McCraw of Lexington; a brother, Harrison Thompson of Lorrane, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Mandy White were Sunday at Mt. Tabor M.E. Church with Rev. L. C. Teague officiating. Burial was in Cathey Cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge. She was 57. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Crillar Buckly, Mrs. Nettie Mae White; two sons, Harvey White and Berry White, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Youth Day was observed at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Sunday with the Macedonia Baptist Church of Jackson worshipping in the evening service.
