OLD BETHEL CEMETERY
This is an old cemetery at Old Bethel Baptist Church on Bethel Road about 5 miles west of Lexington. There are many unmarked graves here, well over 100.
David Donahue recorded this Old Bethel Cemetery January 17, 1999 and checked and updated it in March 2004. Two earlier records for this cemetery are available. Frances Evans recorded the markers on July 26, 1938. Her record appears in Tennessee Records of Henderson County, Bible Records and Tombstone Inscriptions (Nashville, Historical Records Survey, July 27, 1939). This is referred to as "Evans" in the notes below. Horace Perry, Diane Reed, and Brenda Fiddler recorded the cemetery circa 1976. Their record appears in Henderson County, Tennessee Cemetery Inscriptions (R. H. Harris, Memphis, 1976), Vol. II, pp. 403-408. Their work is referred to as "Perry et al." in the notes below. Information from Evans seems to have been copied into the 1976 record. Perry et al. estimated "at least 160 unmarked graves." This estimate seems to have been based on the 1938 work of Evans, whose record provides some information about location of unmarked graves in relation to marked graves.
