OAK GROVE CEMETERY
(Middleburg)This cemetery is located in the Middleburg community of Henderson County. It is maintained fairly well, but there seems to be a relatively a high rate of marker loss. There are dozens of unmarked graves. All fieldstones and nearly all upright marble footstones have been removed. The cemetery is oldest toward the south, where there appears to be a large open area with a Johnson, Martin, McPherson, and Powers markers with 1860s death dates. The area is surrounded by markers with death dates from the 1870s to 1890s.
David Donahue recorded Oak Grove Cemetery February 12, 1991; updated it May 5, 1997; and checked and updated it March 9-11, 2004. Alicia Adcox, Elizabeth Teague, and Jane Nowell recorded this cemetery circa 1975. Their record appears in Henderson County, Tennessee Cemetery Inscriptions (R. H. Harris, Memphis, Tennessee, 1976), Vol. III, pp. 563-570. The record of Oak Grove Cemetery by Adcox, Teague, and Nowell is one of the worst in the cemetery inscriptions book. If the marker was the least difficult to read, they omitted it. They often recorded only birth and death year rather birth and death date. And information about relationships (e.g., "dau. of . . .") usually was omitted.
