Life Sketch

          Mr. George William Pettigrew, Sr., the son of the late George and Ida Pettigrew, was born in Decaturvile, Tennessee July 4, 1917. He departed this earthly life January 24, 1995 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee.

          Mr. Pettigrew attended Decatur County Training School in Decaturville, Tennessee. He received his high school diploma from Woodstock High School in Shelby County, Tennessee.

          At an early age, he accepted Christ and joined the St. Paul Baptist Church in Decaturville, Tennessee. He was united in holy matrimony to Ruby Scott, who preceded him in death August 8, 1990.

          George William was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army. He was a historian and was very knowledgeable of current events. He was a retiree of the Slant and Slant Company.

          Two sisters, Mrs. Eula Cleary and Mrs. Ruby Parsons and two brothers, Mr. Homer Kindle and Mr. Melvis. Pettigrew preceded him in death.

          He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted son, George William (Rebekah) Pettigrew, Jr. of Jackson, Tennessee; a daughter, Mrs. Jacqueline 0. Mingo of Detroit, Michigan; a sister, Mrs. Anna Fisher of Parsons, Tennessee; three granddaughters: Wanda R. (Brian) Jones (whom he reared) of Detroit, Michigan, Courtney Nicole Pettigrew and Barbara Cierra Pettigrew both of Jackson, Tennessee; four grandsons: Ellison Juan Mingo and Maurice L. Pettigrew both of Detroit, Michigan, George W. Pettigrew III and Justin Melvis Pettigrew of Jackson, Tennessee; four great grandchildren: Ariana Mingo, Diamond Pettigrew, Breanna Jones and Brian Jones, Jr.; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
