LIFE SKETCH
Ms. Lois Cicero Jones, the daughter of the late Faustina Jones McElrath and Mack Cicero Jones, was born December 30, 1913 in Decaturville, Tennessee. She departed this life December 23, 1992 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Ms. Jones received her education from Merry High School and Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee and Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the St. Paul Baptist Church in Decaturville. At the time of her demise, she was a member of the Cypress Creek First Baptist Church of Selmer, Tennessee serving as church musician. She was a dedicated church worker and served in many capacities. She was a devoted worker in the Tennessee River District Association where she served as a Director of Music, Youth Advisor, Corresponding Secretary and was the founder of the Tennessee River Singing Convention.
Ms. Jones was a member of the Bright Star Chapter No. 166 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a retired school teacher having taught in Fayette, Wayne and Hardin Counties. She was part-owner of the Selmer Mortuary Funeral Home.
"Nonnie" was a kind-hearted, outgoing person who loved people and was a role model throughout the Tennessee River District.
Those who will be most profoundly deprived of the warmth of her pleasing personality and the strength of her noble character include: a sister, Mrs. Ola Bingham, Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Mr. George McElrath, Decaturville, TN; a foster daughter, Mrs. L. C. Smith, Bethel Springs, TN; eight nieces: Constance Dinwiddie, Mary L. Welch, Wilma J. Welch, Joy McElrath, Addie Whitten, Flora Black, Serena Scott and Sherry James; nine nephews: Edward O’Rea, Joel O’Rea, Eric J. Welch, Eric I. Welch, Arthur K. Welch, Jr., George McElrath, Jr., Maurice McElrath, James McElrath, Willie T. McElrath and Thomas McElrath; a devoted friend, Ms. Carrie S. Anderson; other relatives and friends.
