George W. Partin came to Decatur County from Ringold, Georgia in 1880 and settled in the neighborhood of Bear Creek. He was a sewing machine agent. He met and fell in love with Margaret Rushing and they were married February 8,1882. They built a home in the Bear Creek section and a Postoffice was established here by the name of Partinville, being named after the first Postmaster, George W. Partin.

Mr. and Mrs. Partin lived here until the Midland Railroad came through Parsons, later known as the Perryville branch. The railroad bypassed the little village and that was when Parsons sprung up.

After Parsons was established as a town the Partins moved here and established one of the first stores. He also served here as the first postmaster.

 To this union five children were born, Walter, Arthur, Ada, Don and Carl. Walter, Arthur, Ada and Don are all buried in Parsons Cemetery along with their parents.

Carl Partin is the only living family member, having been born in Parsons Eighty six years ago. He is quite active and very interested in current events. He helps keep Parsons Cemetery in good condition, overseeing the mowing etc.

His father, George W. Partin, built a twelve room brick hotel which he named Tulane Hotel after the Tulane Hotel in Nashville. He and Mrs. Partin operated it for several years. After his death April 1,1918 Carl and Walter took over the Hardware business and operated it for several years. Carl married Miss Mary Wood of Lawrenceburg on June 18,1919 and they have a daughter, Doris Crane who married Bruce Crane. Mrs. Crane has a daughter Doris Jordan by a former marriage to Glen Jordan who passed away quite young. She later married Bruce Crane. The Cranes live in Waverly where Mrs. Crane is head librarian of the Humphreys County Library.

Carl Partin has taken a great deal of interest in politics and has attended four Republican National Conventions, two at Chicago and two at Philadelphia. He also takes quite a bit of interest in both State and County politics. He was elected to serve two terms as Mayor of Parsons in 1923 and 1927.

Walter Partin married Lillian Taylor of Frances, Oklahoma on December 24th, 1913 while he was in New Mexico homesteading some New Mexico land. He later moved back to Parsons where he helped his brother in the Hardware store and later was the sole operator.

They had three children, Virginia, who lives in Memphis, Frances, married and has three children living in Florence, Alabama. She married Jimmie Barber of Florence, Alabama.

Austin Partin is employed by the Michigan School Department and his wife Shirley is employed at the First National Bank there.
