BURWELL LEE, White River Conference, born Davidson Co., Tenn., Oct. 20, 1809 and died Batesville, Ark., May 28, 1877; raised a Presbyterian, "he cast his lot with the Methodists"; licensed to preach July 18, 1828; carried ministry to Ark. in 1830; two years a chaplain in the late war; married Ann Smith who later died; married Susan S. Brownfield who survived him along with four children of his first marriage, one being the wife of Rev. Ed. T. Jones; two younger children of second marriage. Died May 28, 1877.
ELIZABETH BAKER born Trenton Co., Ky., 1820; died Newport, Ky., June 1877; dau of Rev. Moses Vickers, a Baptist preacher; when she was 9 years old her mother died; married; lived to see 38 grandchildren; her youngest daughter was Miss Hattie Cornelius.
MARY EMMA NAVE oldest dau of Thomas W. and Lucretia M. Nave, born Knoxville Tenn., June 5, 1859; died Chickasaw, Ala., April 25, 1877; joined Methodist Church 1871.
FRANCES E. PEMPLETON dau of Joseph and Mary A. Duckworth; wife of John W. Pempleton, born Monroe Co., Miss., Sept. 27, 1853; died near Lewisburg, Ark., Nov. 30, 1876; married March 17, 1872; among survivors were husband and two children.
CORDELIA C. LEATHERWOOD born Oct. 10, 1850; died at residence of mother, Mrs. Nancy Leatherwood, May 15, 1877.
MOLLIE EPPERSON dau of Smith and Lucinda Epperson, born Missouri, May 12, 1858; died near Epperson Springs, Tenn., May 18, 1877.
Mrs. DINAH CURRY born Leeds, England, November 1801; moved to U. S. at age of 14 years; settled in Kentucky; died May 13, 1877.

SAMUEL McCLELLAN born Sullivan Co., Tenn., Sept. 1, 1805; died Christian Co., Ky., June 25, 1877 to which county he had moved at age 5 years, with his parents; married (l) Elizabeth Campbell with whom there was a son who died young; (2) Susan B. Vass and had 7 children, three surviving; (3) Sarah J. Donoho who survived him.

CATHARINE COCKERILL born Fairfax Co., Va., March 16, 1795; died Nashville, Tenn., July 5, 1877 at residence of granddaughter, Mrs. J. R. Harwell; married Nathaniel Cockerill, Jan. 9, 1810 and he died at age 24 years leaving her with five children, one surviving her.

MARGARET POTTS, nee Houston, died Cherokee, Ala., June 6, 1877 in her 70th year of age; born in Cabarrus Co., No. Carolina and married there; moved to no. Alabama; married and had 4 daughters, 5 sons, one of the sons died in the late war; her husband died in 1858.

MALISSA F. HIGDON, nee Blevins, born Meigs Co., Tenn., Aug. 10, 1830; married E. L. Higdon (died Oct. 1871), Jan. 31, 1855; died in Meigs Co., March 14, 1877.

JOHN McGAVOCK born Max meadows, Wythe Co., Va., Jan. 30, 1792; s/o David and Elizabeth McGavock who moved to Tenn. in 1796, settling in no. Nashville; there were 8 brothers and 1 sister in this family circle -James, John, Randle, Frank, Lysander, Hugh, David, Albert and the late Mrs. Joseph L. Ewing. "These brothers were remarkable for their fine physical development - tall, large and robust and men of unusual enterprise." He served in Gen. Andrew Jackson's forces in the War of 1812, against the Creek Indians. Died recently "in sight of his early home*" Only three children survived him, one the wife of Dr. J. B. McFerrin in whose residence he died.

Dr. NEILL H. BAKER of Scottish heritage, born Fayetteville, No. Carolina, Jan. 3, 1823; died Coosa Co., Ala., April 22, 1877 "after a painful illness of thirteen months"; moved to Ala. 1841; graduate, University of New York, 1849; joined Methodist Church 1859. Surviving were widow and 6 children.

ANN SMITH FORD born Cumberland Co., Va., Sept. 6, 1806; died May 31, 1877; dau of John Jefferson "and related to Thomas Jefferson of Monticello"; after father's death she moved with her mother to Sumner Co., Tenn. and married Dr. John P. Ford, March 6, 1832 and then moved to Huntsville, Ala. and on to Nashville, Tenn. in 1842 where he died August 17, 1865. "Sister Ford was possessed of a fine form and a face which beamed with intelligence." Her only children, Mrs. Callender and Mrs. Jones. She died June 1, 1877.
J. LANIER HUTSON born Nov. 1, 1847; died May 27, 1877; father and husband survived her.
HENRY M. SMITH born April 7, 1849; died June 11, 1877; joined Methodist Church at Cove Chapel in 1871; moved to Mo. when young; married and returned for visit to White Co., Tenn. where he died, leaving wife Angeline and one child in Southwest City, Mo.; one child predeceased him.
ELLEN J. AMENT born Dec. 10, 1831; died June 7, 1877; married S. M. Ament, Oct. 3, 1852 and he survived her as well as 6 children.
Dr. THOMAS B. SPRINGS died Warren Co., Tenn., June 17, 1877 in his 69th year of age; joined Baptist Church shortly before his demise.
DELILAH J. JONES born May 21, 1848; died May 1, 1877; surviving were parents A. S. and Delilah Rogers and husband and three small children.

Conference; licensed to preach in 1837; in late war he was chaplain in 28th Tenn. Regiment /CSA/; ordained deacon in 1844; ordained elder in 1848; married (l) Parmelia dau of Rev. Jeremiah Webb and had 9 children; (2) Lucinda Rounds of Putnam Co., Tenn. who survived him.

ELIZABETH H. HAWKINS wife of Rev. John D. Hawkins, born Charleston, So. Carolina Dec. 16, 1788; her father, Joseph Obanion, was a captain and surgeon in the Revolutionary War and moved to Ky. when she was a child; married June 26, 1808, Barren Co., Ky., "I think" (Jas. W. Burton); died June 16, 1877.
A. M. CALLAHAN born Augusta, Maine 51 years ago; died Van Buren, Ark. June 26, 1877 to which place he had moved in 1859 where he operated a cotton factory that burned last year. A tribute to him by Sabbath School of the Methodist congregation to which he belonged.
SARAH C. WAMOCK died May 18, 1877 aged about 68 years in residence of son-in-law, J. H. Napper.
DANIEL MOORE born Jan. 8, 1800; died near Marshall, Texas, May 12, 1877 at residence of son-in-law, D. Baldwin; moved to Texas 1858; his wife died in Paris, Texas in 1869.
Miss ELIZA TURLEY died December 1876; survived by a sister and two brothers.

Colonel WATSON M. COOKE born Jackson Co., Tenn., Sept. 23, 1817; married Maria Ann Shores, Nov. 2, 1841; merchant in Gainesboro, Tenn., 1836-1857 and then move to Nashville (Cooke, Bailey & Co.) "He was a merchant prince…of commanding presence and robust health. "He died August 23, 1877. His only son, Thomas, was killed in the army; a daughter, Dora wife of James W. McFerrin, died April 1875; surviving dau, Pattie wife of Major Lewis.
Rev. Dr. A. B. DUVAL born Buckingham Co., Va., Nov. 6, 1799; raised by grand-father, Samuel Duval and moved with him to Logan Co., Ky. about 1810; licensed to preach, Methodist Church, Aug. 24, 1822; ordained deacon Dec. 29, 1827; ordained elder Nov. 9, 1834; left active ministry for medical practice; remained a local preacher; his wife died in 1860 and he resumed active ministry in Texas Conference in 1860; left Texas Dec. 1871, returned to Fayetteville, Tenn. and in 1876 moved to Sequin, Texas where he died in residence of son-in-law, Capt. Ben F. McCulloch, July 22, 1877.

Rev. WILLIAM HORTON born Tenn., May 8, 1810; died from fall from a wagon, July 20, 1877; licensed to preach in Methodist Church 1861; "a great lover of class meetings." Surviving were widow and several children.

WILLIAM INGRAM CECIL, native of Pulaski Co., Va., died Maury Co., Tenn., June 28, 1877 in his 69th year of age. Several children, one, James Harvey Cecil, died August 20, 1877 in his 32nd year of age.

Major M. L. STRONG born Oglethorpe Co., Ga., May 14, 1831; died Aberdeen, Miss., Aug. 13, 1877; "a dutiful son, an indulgent husband, fond father, kind neighbor"; served in command of Gen. Reuben Davis in late war. Tribute to him by Sabbath School of which his daughter Sallie was a member, undated.

GREENBERRY KELLY born Maryland, Dec. 13, 1781; s/o Benjamin Kelly and Louisa Green Kelly; moved to Robertson Co., Tenn., 1811; veteran War of 1812; first wife died in 1817 and he married Mary Hamilton who survived him; licensed to preach, Methodist Church, 1826, Kentucky Conference; two sons, Jepthah Kelly, retired Methodist minister and William Kelly, aged 56 years, local Methodist preacher. He died Nov. 9, 1877. "He retained his mind to the last."
