SHILOH MEMORIAL GARDENS
This cemetery may be reached via Highway 423 in McKenzie, Tennessee (about three miles);another direct route is from Highway 22 south of McKenzie; turn onto Carroll Lake Road from the latter highway and drive 2.3 miles to this cemetery situated on a small ridge west and over a drive from the Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In 1869, the white membership of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church set aside this land for a cemetery and a church site for black Cumberland Presbyterians. Their frame church, torn down several years ago when the membership moved elsewhere, stood about .1 mile south of the cemetery on flat terrain, near a spring. This land includes the white church-cemetery grounds donated for religious purposes by Elder THOMAS HAMILTON (1789-1879), a devout Christian, a biographical sketch of whom is on pages 93-106 of LIVING OLD MEN OF THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, vol. 1, by E. B. Crisman, St. Louis, 1877.
