This burial ground is sited on the south side of Maytown Road. To reach it drive east on Buena Vista Road about 2.5 miles from the juncture of this road with U.S. Highway 70 in Huntingdon; turn onto Maytown Road and drive about 2 miles to this cemetery.

This burial ground is sited opposite the Hebron United Methodist Church on the east side of Hebron Church Road. To reach it drive about 1.9 miles west from the juncture of State Highway 114 and U.S. Highway 70 in Hollow Rock, over the latter road to Hebron Church Road; turn north on the latter road and drive .4 mile to the cemetery.

HURT CEMETERY
To reach this burial ground drive about 4.9 miles from the juncture of East Main Street/State Highway 77 and State Highway 220 in Atwood, Tenn., to a driveway on the south side of the latter road. Park. Walk to the northeast, through fields, over a branch, a barbed-wire fence, reaching the third hill on which this cemetery rests. It is thus isolated.

To reach this burial ground drive in Huntingdon from the juncture of U.S. Highway 70 with Buena Vista Road about three miles east; turn onto Humble Church Road and drive south about .6 mile to a gate on the east side of this road. From here walk about .3 mile directly east to a wooded area where this cemetery is located. There are numerous sandstones marking graves. Some tombstones have apparently disappeared.

JOHN ROGERS BARKSDALE
John Rogers Barksdale was b. Dec., 1808 near Raleigh, N.C.; d. Dec. 18, 1855 at Lavinia, Carroll Co., Tenn. , where he is buried.
No information is available as to the name of the father of John Rogers Barksdale. The given name Rogers indicates the probability of descent from Jonathan Barksdale, No. 56, q.v., perhaps a grandson which would place him in generation (5). He lived in Wake Co., N. C. until early in 1834 when he removed to Carroll Co., Tenn., where he was a planter and slaveholder. He m. in N.C., Dec. 6, 1833, Nancy Burk. She d. Aug. 1, 1856 at Lavinia, Tenn., where she is buried beside her husband in the Lavinia Cemetery. They had issue of five children, b. in Carroll Co., Tenn.
LEACH CEMETERY
Located several miles south of Atwood, Tennessee. To reach it, drive about .4 mile north from the Rutherford Fork of Obion River bridge to a point on the east side of State Highway 220. Park and walk up a high, wooded hill about .2 mile to this site.

The tombstones are sited in this tangle of trees.

[a fallen stone]NOTE: Charles J. Lanier executed his last will on Feb. 1, 1849; he added a codicil dated August 17, 1849. His widow was Wilmoth E. Lanier and his brothers, were executors. (Carroll County Will Book A, pages 157-158) This document indicates that Lanier's death year was 1849 rather than 1848.
According to Louise Ingersoll (LANIER, 1965, pages 315, 319), Charles Johns Lanier married in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Meymouth Hutchings (she remarried after his death to Francis Herron, October 1, 1850); he was a son of ‘James Madison Lanier (1780-1830) and his wife, Elizabeth Johns; the father having served in a cavalry unit during the American Revolution, fighting for independence. The brothers, James Madison Lanier, Jr. married Nancy R. L. Wood and John Hicks Lanier married Cassandra Barham.

The Mount Comfort Baptist Church was organized July 25, 1830 with Elder Elijah Autry as its founding pastor. The burial ground is located just to the southeast of the present church. It is reached by taking State Highway 114 from Interstate 40, travelling about four and a half miles over this highway, Hester Road and Maple Lake Road. The church and cemetery are sited on Maple Lake Road.

Born July 11, 1799 Died Mar. 4, 1881Mt. Olivet serves as a burial ground for the City of McKenzie; its burials date from after the Civil War. Ben Portius Moore (1902-1981) told the compiler that sometime in the 1960s he had the tombstones from his grandparents' Moore graveyard near Atwood removed and re-erected in the B. P. Moore lot in Mt. Olivet. The remains, however, were not moved.

The most practical approach to this burial ground, currently, is to drive north on State Highway 114 from its juncture with State Highway 224 at Yuma, Tenn., about 3.5 miles to a driveway on the east side of the highway. Walk about a mile northeast to this isolated cemetery from a residence here presently occupied by Wendell Cary and wife. The old-time Westport to Holladay road ran about fifty feet to the west of this cemetery which is located on a high ridge. There are numerous unmarked graves here, perhaps including the graves of slaves.

To reach this burial ground turn off U.S. Highway 70 in Huntingdon onto Buena Vista Road and drive east about 6 miles to this cemetery located on the north side of this road.

To reach this burial ground turn from U.S. Highway 79, near McKenzie, Tenn., turn onto Enon Road and drive about 1.3 miles to Hinkledale Road; turn thereon and drive about 1.1 miles to a point where park in a yard on the south side of this road; walk about .4 mile directly south, veering slightly to the west, over a long field to the high ground where the cemetery is sited; presently there are several tall beech trees here.
