MOORE CHAPEL CEMETERY
Moore Chapel Cemetery is a well-maintained black cemetery on Manley Chapel Road in the McIllwain Community in southern Benton County. It lies on the opposite side of the road and about 150 yards north of Friendship C.M.E. Church. There may be 150 or more unmarked graves. The cemetery usually is listed as Flatwoods in early 20th century death certificates. It may be called Friendship Cemetery in late 20th century obituaries.
David Donahue recorded Moore Chapel Cemetery on July 21, 2004. Jonathan K. T. Smith recorded Moore Chapel cemetery in January 1995 and revisited the cemetery in December 1997. His record of the cemetery is included in his Tombstone Inscriptions from Black Cemeteries in Benton County, Tennessee. B. F. Cain recorded Moore Chapel Cemetery in June and December 1996. His record appears in Cemetery Listings of Benton County, Tennessee (Benton County, Genealogical Society, 1997). The cemetery was recorded by an unknown person circa 1979. This record appears in Benton County, Tennessee Cemetery Records (Glover's Trace Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, 1979).
