CALVARY CEMETERY
Calvary Cemetery is located behind Toles Chapel C.M.E. Church on Wren Street in Camden. The earliest identified death date in the cemetery in 1970. A record of the cemetery made in circa 1979 reports temporary markers with 1957 and 1960 death dates. About half of all graves lack permanent markers. Many temporary marker plates have lost their information. Ten graves have homemade markers (no dates) with the name inscribed on the end of a piece of concrete. These generally are more difficult to read and are aging worse that the temporary markers sometimes still in place by them.
David Donahue recorded Calvary Cemetery July 22, 2004. Jonathan K. T. Smith recorded Calvary Cemetery in January 1995 and revisited the cemetery in December 1997. His record of the cemetery is included in his Tombstone Inscriptions from Black Cemeteries in Benton County, Tennessee. Nell Morisett and Dona Taylor recorded Calvary Cemetery in December 1996. Their record appears in Cemetery Listings of Benton County, Tennessee (Benton County, Genealogical Society, 1997). The cemetery was recorded by an unknown person circa 1979. This record appears in Benton County, Tennessee Cemetery Records (Glover's Trace Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, 1979).
