Perry County, Tennessee
American Revolution (1776-1783)
According to the Tennessee State Library and Archives,
Tennessee did not have any designated units during the Revolutionary War, as it
was not a state at that time. They recommend that a researcher
contact the state from which your Revolutionary War ancestor came to inquire
about available rosters and records
However, we do
have soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, and who later came to live
in Perry County. The lists and links below reflect this group of soldiers
or widows.
If you have any
record for a soldier who fought in the American Revolution and lived in Perry
County Tennessee, please contact Jan
Monnin, your Perry County
TnGenWeb coordinator.

I am Maury Miller III, president of the Christopher Strong Chapter, TNSSAR
in Dickson, Tn. We have several responsibilities as a chapter, one of
which is to bring honor to Revolutionary War Patriots by marking
Revolutionary War Patriots graves. Perry County is in our realm of
influence. We mark the graves with a metal marker if a tombstone already
exists, if not, then the direct family can receive a free tombstone by
applying to the Department of Veterans Affairs. If this route is not
available, then the "Chapter" will work with other interested
organizations and individuals to help raise needed funds to purchase a
tombstone for the Revolutionary War soldier, somewhere between $700.00
and $750.00 being the cost if some monument company is found to be
conservative and patriotic.
Within our marking, there is great ceremony. The TNSSAR Color Guard
comes dressed in Revolutionary War uniforms and with several flags. Not
only members of the local SAR show up but also the local chapters of the
DAR are in attendance. A wreath of flowers and ribbons, red, white and
blue is presented at the grave. The family of the soldier as well as the
presidents of the attending SAR and DAR give speaks as well as the Perry
County historian, the Perry County Mayor and etc., and of course a fine
photographer needs to be there to record the special moment and accolade
given to the particular Revolutionary War soldier.
We would very much like to mark at least two and maybe three
Revolutionary War soldiers in 2011 that are buried in Perry County, Tn.
Along this line, we would need to know if there is a Revolutionary War
soldier, who is buried in Perry County, and whether they have a tombstone
or not. If you have an ancestor or know of a Revolutionary War
veteran who is buried in Perry County, please contact me directly.
