Perry County, Tennessee

Pineview Pace Cemetery analysis

Analysis contributed by:  Jan Monnin

19 March 2009

Cataloging and photos contributed by:  Wilda Patterson

This is the main cemetery serving the Pineview Community on Tom's Creek of Perry County, Tennessee.  The cemetery is maintained very well. It is nearly full within its present borders.

Names for this cemetery:

  • A sign at the entrance drive notes this to be Pineview Pace Cemetery;
  • An older name for this cemetery is Horner Cemetery;
  • This cemetery is listed as the Pace Cemetery in the USGS quadrangle map.

The following are the known transcriptions of this cemetery:

  • Recorded in the Bowen book in the 1990's.  Click here to view it;

  • David Donahue recorded the cemetery on 01 October 199 and checked and updated it on 29/30 August 2004.

  • Cataloging and photographs of the tombstones were taken by Wilda Patterson in November 2008, which are shown below;

Notes from Wilda & Rex Patterson:

The Cemetery is almost full to capacity (2008) in the top section, and the older lower front section is completely full. There are many unmarked graves throughout the cemetery, especially the older sections. An additional plot of land was given to the Pineview-Pace Cemetery in 2008 by the Acree Family.  This new section is located on the lower south side and is under development for future burials. Trees separate the original cemetery from the new addition.

There are three stacked stone crypts in the oldest part of the cemetery.  In a conversation with Miss Ila Horner in the mid-80‘s, she stated she had been told by older residents that these 3 graves were the tombs of slaves. Miss Ila  lived all her life about one half mile from this cemetery.      …..…by  Rex Patterson

Because there are so many burials in this cemetery, I have divided the cemetery up into 4 pieces, which are listed below.  That way the pages won't take so long to load.
