Static is located at a crossroads intersection involving U.S. Route 127 (US 127), Tennessee State Route 111 (SR 111) (formerly Tennessee State Route 42), and Kentucky Route 1076. Its coordinates are 36\u00b037\u203219\u2033N latitude, and 85\u00b05\u20326\u2033W longitude. Using US 127, Jamestown, Tennessee, is 21 miles (33.8 km) southeast, and Albany, Kentucky, is six miles north. Byrdstown, Tennessee, however, is 6 miles (9.65 km) southwest via SR 111.<\/p>\n

The town is located due east of the Dale Hollow Lake area.<\/p>\n

This village was named for a one-eyed bulldog. It is the place of great theatrics in the movie Sergeant York<\/em>. Here Gary Cooper asks the bar tender for a drink. The bar tender wouldn’t sell the drink unless he stepped across a line painted on the floor. That was the state line. Across the line Cooper got his drink! Anyway, it was just easier for Byrdstown and Albany to split the routes. The better roads made it just as easy to go to either of those post offices as the one in Static. You could see and buy more in those BIG towns. Now, you can gamble on one side of Static and drink on the other. 60 Minutes<\/em> should do a story about this place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
