He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a past VFW post commander in Howard City, MI. He was a commissioner of Roseville from 1950 to 1956.<br \/>\nSurvivors include his sons, Lonnie J. Mr. Bowman was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Overton County, TN, the son of Grant and Nellie Key Bowman.<br \/>\nHe was a retired factory worker and a farmer, and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceeded in death by her hsuband, J.B. Brown, and her sons, J.K. Herman and James Brown.<br \/>\nMrs. Brown was a seamstress for Red Kap Industries and a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church.<br \/>\nFuneral services were held Aug. 14 at Gospel Tabernacle Church, with Bro. Clayton Padgett officiated.<br \/>\nMrs. Burkhart was born May 10, 1935, in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Cora Mae Looper and Allison Wilson.<br \/>\nShe had owned Farragut Diner, and at the time of her death owned and operated Joann&#8217;s Restaurant on Union Ave. in Knoxville.<br \/>\nSurvivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Zack and Marsha Bohannon of Crossville; sister, Edith Clark of Dayton, OH; brother, Harold Wilson of Knoxville; grandchildren, Chelsea Bohannon, Katelin Bohannon, Shawn Hatfield and Heather Hatfield; great-grandchildren, Zackary, Michelia, Dallas and D.J.; and special friend, Charles Kilpatrick of Knoxville, and his two sons, Brad and Chad Kilpatrick, both of Chattanooga.<br \/>\nShe was preceded in death by her brothers, Hoyt Wilson and Ed Wilson.<br \/>\nGoff Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>HERMAN HERSCHEL CARR<\/p>\n<p><em>Crossville Chronicle<\/em><br \/>\nHerman Herschel Carr, 93, of Crossville, passed away Feb. 5, 2001, after a recent illness at WyndRidge Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted Feb. 7 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Crossville City Cemetery. Bro. Phil Jenkins and Bro. Wade Webster officiated, with special singing by the Church of Christ Singers.<br \/>\nMr. Carr was born Sept. 9, 1907, in Overton County, TN, the son of William and Susan Handy Carr.<br \/>\nA long-time resident of Cumberland County, Mr. Carr was the well-known owner of My Barber Shop, and also owned the Travel Court on Hwy. 70 for several years. He was a respected church leader, businessman and devoted family man. An active member of Crossville Church of Christ, he once served as elder. He was also involved with the VFW and the Senior Citizens Club.<br \/>\nHe was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines, and is said to have been a barber to Gen. Douglas MacArthur. In 1998 he was honored by the Dept. of Veteran Affairs as being the oldest living veteran in Cumberland County.<br \/>\nThroughout his life, he enjoyed playing basketball and played for the Alpine Institute at a national tournament in 1926. An avid gardener, he spent much of his later years growing flowers at various places in Crossville. His warm personality and sense of humor were what made him a special person. His love of reading the Bible and singing church hymns was very much a part of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.<br \/>\nSurvivors include his daughter, Jeannetta Toungette of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Margaret Beaty of Crossville; stepdaughter, Mary Nell Robinette of Kingsport, TN, stepsons, Gene Webb and James Webb, both of Dayton, OH; sister, Myrtle Norris of Rickman, TN; granddaughters, Angela Toungette and Theresa Toungette, both of Nashville; and numerous stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.<br \/>\nHe was preceded in death by two loving wives, Mary Lowe Carr and Lorene Webb Carr; and a brother, Claude Carr.<br \/>\nPallbearers were members of Crossville Church of Christ, Eddie Brown, Bill Foland, Tate Welch, Elmo Lewis, Ray Jernigan and Larry McDuffee.<br \/>\nBilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>BETTY COLEMAN<\/p>\n<p><em>Crossville Chronicle<\/em><br \/>\nBetty Coleman, 80, of Livingston, TN, passed away Oct. 8, 2002. WHITTAKER<\/p>\n<p><em>Crossville Chronicle<\/em><br \/>\nAnna Irene Whittaker, 84, of Crossville, passed away Sept. 12, 2002. Funeral services were conducted Sept. 15 from the chapel of Bilbrey Funeral Home, with burial in Slate Springs Cemetery. Bishop Dave Devos officiated.<br \/>\nMrs. Whittaker was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Curtis and Minerva Kirby Looper.<br \/>\nShe was an upholsterer, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.<br \/>\nSurvivors include her daughter, Wayne Lynn Ford of Illinois; sons, Larry Whittaker, Kenny Whittaker and Mike Whittaker, all of Crossville; sister, Mary Bessie Barnes of Crossville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.<br \/>\nShe was preceded in death by her son, Burl Whittaker; daughter, Mildred Brown; brother, Dolfus Looper; and sister, Lois Brown.<br \/>\nPallbearers were Johnny Adams, Edward Goss, Jim Matoy, Jackie Ashburn, Russell Ford and Greg Hart.<br \/>\nBilbrey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>MYRTLE WILSON<\/p>\n<p><em>Crossville Chronicle<\/em><br \/>\nMyrtle Wilson, 76, of Cookeville, TN, passed away Sept. 23, 2000, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted today, Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, TN, with interment to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The Rev. Ovle Tinch and the Rev. Frank Davis will officiate.<br \/>\nMrs. Wilson was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Overton County, TN, the daughter of Andy and Clora Vaughn McCowan.<br \/>\nShe was a homemaker, and worked as a dietitian in the Putnam County School System. She was a member of the Algood First Freewill Baptist Church.<br \/>\nSurvivors include her husband of almost 57 years, R.G. Wilson of Cookeville; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Don Stroud of Columbus, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Jean Wilson of Crossville; sister, Cliva Phipps of Monterey; brothers, Homer McCowan and A.C.
