Raleigh J. THOMPSON was born April 16, 1832, in Hamblen County, Tennessee. He died February 6, 1903, in Overton County, Tennessee, and is buried in the Dodson Chapel Cemetery in Overton County, Tennessee. Raleigh THOMPSON joined the Confederate Army in late 1862 as a member of the O. P. Hamilton's Tennessee Command, sometimes called Hamilton's or Shaw's Battalion. In February 1863, Hamilton's Command rode to Florence, Alabama and joined with General Forrest's Brigade. Many of Hamilton's Command were attached to the 8th Dibrell's Cav. Co. E. He served until the surrender and returned to Overton County, Tennessee, and became a prominent country doctor in the 1st & 2nd Districts of Overton County.
