Pickett County Structures
Amonett House
Believed to be the oldest dwelling still standing in Pickett County, the Amonett house was built by an ancestor, John Dillon, around 1830. The first land that was to be the Pickett County seat was donated by the family but civil boundaries deemed that the courthouse be placed at its present position. In keeping with the generous community spirit of their ancestors, the Amonett family is working with the Pickett County Civil War Heritage Committee to restore the old home and make it available to the public for housing the interpretive exhibit detailing the people, events and places of local interest that occurred during the era of the American Civil War. -- TheBorderlands.org (via Internet Archive)
