Transcriber’s Remarks
Census Date: June 1, 1830
NARA Microfilm #M19-179
The 1830 Overton County, Tennessee’s enumerator, Robert Nevins, recorded the information with a good legible penmanship. His capital letters are large and distinct. The small letters that follow the capital letters are very small in comparison but are still good penmanship. I believe that the difficulties of reading parts of the census resulted because of the condition of the document. It was not in a poor condition, in fact, in comparison to other early censuses it was in good condition. It was not dark in places or torn seriously; in my opinion, it was probably the natural fading of the ink through the passing of time to the original document.
