Elvin K. Moredock
Elvin K. MOREDOCK was born in Jan 1842 in Overton County, the son of John Thomas MOREDOCK and Elizabeth LINDER. Tobias MOREDOCK, one of the early settlers of the area, was his grandfather. Elvin served in the 25th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry which was organized at Camp Zollicoffer near Livingston. Great-granddaughter, Nevagene Almondrode Roberts, writes in the History of Overton County: "Elvin enlisted in the Confederate Army under Colonel Sydney Stanton. Six months later he was in the battle of Mill Springs, KY, where they were defeated. He fought in the battles at Murfreesboro and Chicamauga, TN, also in the battles at Richmond and Petersburg, VA. He also served three or four months under General Robert E. Lee in Virginia. He was shot in his left hand during the war and was left with a permanent injury." Elvin married Sarah E. WINTON in 1865 and had four children. He died in Livingston on 17 Jun 1932 . -- contributor Richard Moredock
