BENNETT, L. B., Overton Co., Tennessee, CSA #2052, #3932, Wid. #4673
APPLICATION #2052 filed 22 July 1899. Reside Windle, County of Overton. Served Co. 3, 8th Tennessee. Wounded in skirmish between Franklin and Columbia, struck in right eye by hanging limb, badly impaired sight. It was dark and in the timber. Totally lost right eye vision 20 years ago, believe left eye is impaired.
Enlisted 1862, G. G. Dibrell’s Regiment, 8th Tennessee, John S. Roberts, Captain.
Born 1844, Overton County, Tennessee.
Took oath of allegiance to U. S. A. Was forced to take it to be paroled, later part of 1864.
Was married in the Army. Number in household: Wife age 55, girl 18, son 15.
Occupation Farmer.
Own $200 of poor land. Contracted $30 of it to try and get support [Transcriber’s note: Possibly leased for $30 per year.]
Wife has nothing.
Attorney to get pension is R. T. Thompson, Waterloo P. O., Overton Co.

AFFIDAVIT: Applicant captured and Paroled Spring 1864… took up arms again with Capt. Roberts company & Col. Daugherty’s Regiment until Daugherty captured. 5 June 1908. /s/ L. B. Bennet
APPLICATION #3932, dated Jany 25, ’02. Reside Miranda, Overton Co., Tennessee.
Enlisted Col. Dibrell and John S. Roberts, Co. E. Rt eye and crippled left knee… horse running against him in a march, near the town of Murphreesboro. Was struck by a gun on one of my testicles in 1863, given me severe pain ever since… can’t work at times.
Am married, five in family. Wife age 57, children 22, 25, 17. One girl. Work on farm. Lived in Tennessee all my life, 58 years.
AFFIDAVIT: W. M. Breeding, Physician. Cataract right eye, double hernia [Transcriber’s note: can’t read]…. [Transcriber’s note: can’t read] lower extremity of left femur… Do not consider able to
earn respectable living.
AFFIDAVIT: 11 April 1905 Resides ?Haides/Hailes, Overton Co., Tennessee. Wife age 60, son age 20. Applicant has been a resident of Tennessee for 61 years.
AFFIDAVITS: A. J. Holloway of Cookeville, L. T. Peek of Miranda. Knew him to be a faithful soldier.
WIDOW’S APPLICATION: 10 January 1913. #4673. Louisa Bennett, widow of L. B. Bennett.
Live Rt 1, Overton Co., Tennessee. Born in Overton Co., maiden name Gibbons.
Married March 1861, Overton Co. by Rev. W. G. Reed.
Husband died at home in Overton County.
Had seven children, two girls and five boys, ages about 49, 47, 45, 41, 39, 36, 30.
Have no real estate. Live on 10 acres. Have mule, 6 hogs and pigs.

AFFIDAVIT: J. W. Peek, known widow 55 years. She was born 1844 in Overton County. Knew her husband. He served from 1862 until close of war. I was not a soldier. He died at home 16 November 1912. I am a neighbor. /s/ J. W. Peek
