DELK [DILK], Mrs. Dan Jr. “Pall Mall, Fentress County.” There has been a little sickness here. Mrs. Dan DILK (sic) Jr., died on the 4th of this month, of fever, leaving a husband and some little ones to mourn her loss. The Leffew Place
As a child in this house I did play.
After Mother died brother and I went there to stay.
Our Aunt Effie Leffew loved us so,
When Daddy came to get us, we did not want to go.
With tears on my face and sadness in my heart,
Auntie had taken care of brother and me, she did her part.
I sit with wonderful thoughts of long ago.
To Fentress County TN, I wish you all could go.

Notes for DAVID D. SMITH: He was formerly Superintendent of Schools in Fentress County and later became a merchant, farmer and timber man. He is buried in Spring City, Tn. Burial: December 04, 1938, Spring City Cem., Spring City, TN

Elis And Nancy Ann Delk

Elis was the son of Johnny Delk and Sarah Williams Delk. He was born June 5, 1855 and died April 24, 1926. The Delks came from Germany.
Nancy Ann was the daughter of William (Billy) Patton. Billy was the son of Hymelus Patton. He was said to have been a half Cherokee Indian. The Pattons are said to have come from England. Billy was a soldier during the Civil War. He was born in 1811 and died in 1915. Nancy was born July 26,1855.
Elis was a farmer and Nancy was a housewife, mother and a midwife. EIis and Nancy had three children. They were Rutheford B. (R.B.) who was a merchant and sold real estate, Warden P. (W.P.) was a merchant and Sarah Jane who was a housewife and mother.

Rutherford and Gertie Ellen Delk

Rutherford B. (R.B.) was the son of Elis and Nancy Ann Delk. He was born July 31, 1877 and died May 3,1953. Gertie Ellen was the daughter of Jesse Young Patton and Melvina Crabtree. She was born April 13, 1885.
R.B. and Ellen were married at Forbus, Tennessee November 3, 1897 by Bill Upchurch. Witnesses to the wedding were James (Jim) Berry and Mary Jane Patton. They lived in Fentress County, Tennessee most of their lives.
R.B. and Ellen had eight children. They were: Vina Valentine (Valen) born February 2, 1902. Valen was a housewife and mother. She died August 14, 1984 and is buried in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Vera Violet was born June 8, 1904 and was a housewife and mother. She died March 10, 1978 and is buried at Memorial Gardens at Allardt, Tennessee. Jesse Warden was born September 22, 1906. He was a merchant and retired schoolteacher. Rosa Ellis was born April 12, 1908 and was a housewife, mother and a retired teacher. Ruby Ann was born September 14, 1911 and was a housewife, mother and a retired teacher. She taught twenty-five years in the Fentress County schools. Noble Rutheford was born October 28, 1913. Noble was a merchant at Monterey, Tennessee for several years. He died January 17, 1979 and is buried at Monterey, Tennessee. Patton Edward was born September 4, 1916. Patton was a soldier during World War II and a merchant. He died in 1979. Warren G. (Jack) was born May 6, 1918. Jack was a sailor during World War II and a retired factory worker. He is buried in Muncie, Indiana.
R.B. and Ellen had three children who died in infancy.
