Boom was the more southern post office on the road between Livingston and Byrdstown. It closed because the mail could be sent on better roads over longer distances as time passed. The Monroe Post Office in Overton County would get the biggest part of this area’s mail. Dale Hollow Lake also isolated the Boom community from the rest of Pickett County.
