- *(6) William L. Carmichael died on Dec.31,1862.
- *(13) Martin B. Gentry Enlisted July, 1861. Discharged Aug 4, 1862. Muster rolls indicate he was in camp in Livingston, TN. Oct 1, 1861 – absent sick, Dec 29, 1861 – present. The following letter is attached to his discharge papers. I certify that the within named M B Gentry a private of Capt. J H Curtis Company I of the 25th Regiment of Tenn Volunteers born in Jackson County in the state of Tenn aged 43 years five feet five inches high fair complexion blue eyes dark hair and by profession a mechanic was enlisted by J W McHenry at Livingston Tenn on the 30th day of July, 1861 to serve for one year and is now entitled to a discharge by reason of being over 35 years of age. The said M B Gentry was last paid by paymaster C. Tidwell to include the first day of January 1862, and has pay due from that time to the present date. There is due to him thirty-four dollars and seventeen cents on account of clothing not drawn. The contract price of the ration at Montgomery, AL is 30 cents given in duplicate at Montgomery AL this first day of August 1862. J.(James) H. Curtis, Capt, Commanding Company.
- *(23) Samuel J. Johnson, Mark Barkers great grandfather, was captain of Co. K of the 25th when he was captured at Drewry’s Bluff, Virginia in May 1864. As a POW, he became one of the “Immortal Six Hundred” Confederate officers imprisoned under fire on Morris Island SC.
- *(31) W.J. Beasley David Minton located a William Jasper Beasley, 1847-1920 buried in Portales New Mexico. He is listed in the UDC records there indicate that he is a Confederate Soldier with the 25th Tennessee Infantry, Co. I.
- There are probably some duplicates:
Similarly, Dr. Reed is given as a surgeon, but also as Capt. of Company I.Capt. James Curtis, in the text, is listed as being in Company G and Company I. He is given in the tables at the end of the chapters as being in Company I.
Finally, the text mentions a Col. McEwin and a Pvt. Boyd Terry in terms that suggest they could have belonged to the 25th
