In 1834, the Tennessee Legislature mandated that each county set out districts for administration, voting, and taxation.  Those districts were to be effective in 1836.  Every county created a map, but many maps were lost.  Fortunately, the map for Overton County survived.

Existing original maps are fragile and are housed in the Tennessee State Library & Archives.
