{"id":2156,"date":"2015-03-28T22:00:15","date_gmt":"2015-03-29T03:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/obion\/?p=2156"},"modified":"2021-11-29T19:09:09","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T01:09:09","slug":"basil-maxwell-1973","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/obion\/basil-maxwell-1973\/","title":{"rendered":"MAXWELL, Basil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Basil Bright &#8220;Jack&#8221; MAXWELL<\/strong>, 95-year-old Troy resident, died Thursday afternoon at Obion County General Hospital.\u00a0 He had been in failing health for several months.<\/p>\n<p>Services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Troy Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church with the <strong>Rev. Calvin SMITH<\/strong> officiating.\u00a0 Burial will follow in Troy Cemetery with White-Mahoon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. MAXWELL<\/strong> was a member of one of the pioneer families of the Troy area, having been born there in February of 1878, son of the late <strong>John B. and Mrs. Bonnie Smith MAXWELL<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr. MAXWELL<\/strong> was a retired railroad mail clerk, having served for 38 years. He also had farming and timber interests in the Troy area.<\/p>\n<p>Active in politics, Mr. MAXWELL had represented Obion County in the Tennessee legislature, was a two-time mayor of Troy and had served as chairman of the Democrat party in Obion County.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife, <strong>Mrs. Lannie Turnage MAXWELL<\/strong>, whom he married in 1911, and a son, <strong>John Basil MAXWELL<\/strong> of Memphis.<\/p>\n<p>Pallbearers will be John MOSLEY, John E. HUEY, Lester HAILEY, Edwin McADOO, H.C.
