No history of the early old building is available and it is believed it burned during forest fires.<\/p>\n<p>In 1852, J. C. Davidson deeded about five acres to the Elbridge Methodist Church as a donation from the deceased Dr. Carroll. The frame building under construction was demolished by a storm and the members rebuilt and dedicated the building New Chapel. This building was replaced while R. L. Norman was minister in 1897. The 1885-86 register, oldest found, placed New Chapel in the Dyersburg district. It was later placed on the Obion Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>In 1900 four churches formed the Elbridge Circuit of the Union City District: New Chapel, Minnick, Zion and Cunningham. Also, the members of the circuit supplied a parsonage by subscription until 1914 when it was replaced by a new minister&#8217;s home.<\/p>\n<p>The 1885-86 records shows 70 members at New Chapel which increased to 277 by 1902. Pastors and presiding elders beginning with this record: 1885, S. L. Jewell PC; 1885-86, W. T Harris PE; 1886, H. B. Owens PC; 1887, A. J. Wheeler PC; 1887-88, J. H. Evans PE; 1888, R. Y. Blackwell PC; 1889-90 G. W. Evans PC; 1891, B Medlin PC; 1889-92, H. W. Brooks PE; 1892, B. F. Peeples, PC; 1893, J. S. Renshaw PC.<\/p>\n<p>These were followed by: S. B. Love, D. M. Evans, R. L. Norman, J. B. Winsett, R. S. Harrison, J. T. Alexander, C. E. Norman, W. H. Collins, E.J.W. Peters. W. A. Banks, C. A, Riggs, J. T. BAnks, B. D. Cavin, T. N. Wilkes, B. A. Walker, W. A. Lampkin, W. S. Lockman, R. E. Hickman, W. K. Lovett, O. H. Boatwright, H. D. Hurley, J. E. Hopper, W. A. Baker.<\/p>\n<p>Other presiding elders: G. W. Wilson, H. B. Johnston, W. C. Waters, J. M. Pickens, R. A. Clark, R. L. Norman, J. M. Jenkins, F. B. Jones and W. C. Barham.<\/p>\n<p>Four Methodist ministers were ordained from this charge: C. E. Norman, A. E. Hold, M. S. Sanford, and J. E. Hopper.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday School Superintendents of record: W. T. Call, W. E. Wray, W. S. Sorrell, J. H. Lippard, V. G. Hailey, J. W. Cunningham and J. H. King.<\/p>\n<p>Church Stewards on record: C. T. Lippard, C. N. Shires, E. C. Carroll, W. J. Call, H. B. Fleming, B. W. Fleming, P. A. Lippard, F. H. Lippard.<\/p>\n<p>Officials in 1940: Pastor: W. A Barker; Presiding Elder: W. C.
