THOMAS M 'TOM', 70, of Deer Lodge, died Monday, June 13, 2005, in Methodist
Medical Center, Oak Ridge. A member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church,
Deer Lodge, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Shelvejean Radcliff
Facemire; and sisters, Beatrice Miller and Bernice Perrell. Survivors include
children, Vickie Brown of Belleview, Fla., Robin Nicola of Caldwell, Ohio,
Tom Facemire Jr. of Ocala, Fla., Cindy Langley of Deer Lodge and Paul Facemire
of Smithville, W.V.; brothers, Charles Facemire, Buddy Facemire and Eugene
Facemire; sisters, Betty Talbott, Maxine Seese and Mary Knight; 14 grandchildren;

FAGEN, SADIE,; West Lafayette - Mrs. James Stewart, of 99 E. Sixth St., West Lafayette, has received word of the death of her mother, Mrs. Sadie, Fagin, which occured July 8 at Equality, Ill., where she had been visiting with another daughter, Mrs. John Aslinger. FAIRCHILD, MARY RUTH WEBB, 85, Twin Lakes, Wartburg, after a lengthy illness, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 30, 2001. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Liberty Baptist Church and a Christian for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter James Fairchild; parents William A. and Nora Honeycutt Webb; and brothers Reece, Reid, and Roy Webb. FAIRCHILDS, MRS. ALBERT-- Mr. and Mrs. I. J. Human and sons, Paul and Ralph attended the funeral of Mrs. Albert Fairchilds at Mill Creek, in Morgan County last Sunday. Mrs Fairchilds was the wife of Albert Fairchilds and a daughter of Ex-sheriff Chas. W. Human of Wartburg, and a niece of I.J. Human, of Oneida. She died almost suddenly with rupture. The funeral was conducted at the Mill Creek school house Sunday by Rev. Tim V. Peters, of Burrville.

FAIRCHILDS, MARTHA ELIZABETH LINDSAY, affectionately known as “Granny Bug”, died Sunday at 3:00 p.m., at her home in the Mill Creek Community of the Fifth District of Morgan County after an illness of some two weeks. She was 89 and had been in declining health for several months. She was the widow of the late L C Fairchilds who died several years ago. She is survived by four sons, Theodore Fairchilds, who made his home with his mother, Albert Fairchilds of Sunbright, Gilbert Fairchilds of Oakdale and Robert Fairchilds of Harriman; two daughters, Mrs Fillmore (Freddie) Shannon of Dayton, Ohio and Mrs James (Nedra) Wilkes of Galatin, Tenn; 24 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren., two sisters, Mrs Abbie Wilson of Chattanooga and Mrs Joe Jones of Shirley, Tenn, and a host of other relatives and friends. Fifth District Justice of the Peace, Allard Fairchilds is a grandson. Mrs Fairchilds was born, Martha Elizabeth Lindsay, March 6, 1874 in Roane County but had lived most of her life in Scott and Morgan Counties. She had been a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church for many years. In spite of her age “Granny Bug” had remained very active and did most of her house work and sewing. Only a few months ago she had made her burial clothes, doing all of the sewing by hand. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Rev J W Satterfield, pastor of the Sunbright Methodist Church, officiating. MONTIE H. "BEE", 85, Huber Heights, Ohio, formerly of Mill Creek Community
of Sunbright, passed away suddenly Thursday, June 20, 2002 in the Grandview
Hospital. Montie was retired from Chrysler Airtemp with over 31 years
of service and was an Army Veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death
by his parents Albert and Lydia; brothers, Allard, Lonza, Ten and Sam;
and sisters Pauline Goodman and Josephine Fairchilds. He is survived by
his wife Mary Custer Fairchilds; sisters and brothers-in-law Maxine Langley,
Jeneva Whitaker, Freddie and Chris Davis, Joyce and Sherman Cooper, Barbara
and Tommy Stringfield and Billie and Donald Stewart; sisters-in-law Jewell
Mootz and Alta Hill; special nieces and their husbands Laura and Doug Lehman
and family and Mary and Charles Angi and family; special nephew Daniel

76, a resident of Coalfield, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at Methodist Medical
Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Farr was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Wheelwright,
Ky. He moved to Tennessee in early childhood and had continued to live
in Coalfield. Mr. Farr was a disabled iron worker who worked at Rockwood
Electric and Furnace. He served his country in the United States Army during
the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Sue Farr;
by parents, Joe and Pearl Kelly Farr; by sisters, Ada Liles and Reba Neal;
and by three brothers, Ed, Carl, and John Farr. He is survived by his wife
of 56 years, Wilma Halburnt Farr; by sons, Jimmy Farr Jr. and wife, Pamela,
and Joseph Farr, both of Coalfield; by daughters, Jeanette Montgomery and
husband, Robert, of Coalfield, Barbara Joyce Rich and husband, Eddie, of
Wartburg, and Janet Thompson and husband, Randy, of Oak Ridge. He is also

FLEMING, LEGRETTA JEAN "JEANIE", age 55 of Morgan County, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Jeanie loved attending church and had a great love for music. Her favorite song was "Amazing Grace". She attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years and most recently, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Coalfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobby and Ella Mae Seiber; her Grandparents, John and Mary Seiber. Lena Alta Ford, 88, of Crossville, passed away Dec. 30, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Jan. 2, 2002 from the chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., with burial in Oak Hill Baptist Cemetery. The Rev. Hank Jones officiated. Mrs. Ford was born June 26, 1913, in Morgan County, TN, the daughter of Woodson and Callie McCormick Taylor. She was a school teacher for 39 years. FORRESTER, JOHN B., 58, died suddenly at his home, 404 West Douglas street, early today. He had been in ill health for several months. Funeral services will be conducted at the Walker mortuary, West Main street, at 2:30 o'clock Sunday. Rev. Aubrey P. White, pastor of First Baptist church, will conduct the services. The body will be taken to Sunbright, Tenn.for interment. Friends may call at the funeral home. Mr. Forrester was born at Burrville, Tenn., April 10, 1881. He was united in marriage in 1914 to Catherine De Marcus, who passed away 15 years ago. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Ruth Daterman, Billy and Virginia Forrester, all of Freeport. An infant daughter preceded him in death. There are two sisters, four brothers and a grandchild surviving. Mr. Forrester was employed by the Stover Manufacturing and Engine Co.

She attended Oakdale School where she was an outstancing basketball player. At the age of 16 she accepted the Lord at Bethel Baptist Church. She worked as an accountant and retired several years ago so she could return to Harriman to stay with her mother. She was preceded in death by her father Roy W. FRASER, MAURINE DILLON, 92, was born March 3, 1915 in Lancing, and passed away peacefully on May 25, 2007. She was the last survivor of nine siblings, John, Otho, Alice, Maude, Mary, May, Violet and Elsie. Her parents were Isabel and John Dillon. Maurine was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Dr. George Fraser. Mrs. Fraser is survived by her children, their spouses and grandchildren; daughter, Sarah Larsen, her husband, Chris Larsen and their son, David Larsen of Tucson, Az.; son, Dan Fraser, his wife Julie and their daughter, Emilie, of Victoria British Columbia; and daughter, Katy Fraser and her husband, Bob Schanilec of Danville, Ca.; in addition to her loving sister-in-law Katherine Dillon, many cousins, nieces and nephews. FREELS, W. DUDLEY- of Sunbright, Tenn. - a Morgan County commissioner and Head Start chairman - died Wednesday at Methodist Medical Center in OakRidge. He was 71. Mr. Freels, a longtime public servant to his community, spent 20 years working as both chief of Sunbright's volunteer fire department and property(assessor for Morgan County. At the time of his death, he was serving as as county commissioner from the 5th District and as chairman of Morgan County Head Start. Mr. Freels was a member of Sunbright United Methodist Church, New Faith Lodge 768 and a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lucy Human Freels, his wife, Norma Nitzschke Freels, and a brother, R.D. Freels. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janett and Joe Dan Galloway; a foster daughter, Torchie L'Italian of El Chaon, Calif.; grandchildren Sean and Julie Galloway; brothers J.L. and Charles Freels, both of Michigan, Frank, (H.M. and Paul Freels, all of Tennessee, and Joe Freels of Missouri; and a sister, Betty Rogers of Ohio. FREELS, MR JOHN RUSSELL, JR., age 65 of Oneida, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was a 1961 graduate of Sunbright High School and a 1966 Graduate of Tennessee Tech. He was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Oneida until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and being around his family and friends and especially his grandkids. He will be greatly missed. TRUCK DRIVER EXONERATED IN HIGHWAY DEATH
William E. Spears of Harriman, driver of a truck which struck and killed Monroe Freels, 67, on Hwy. 27 near Wartburg the night of Jan., 4, was cleared of an involuntaruy manslaughter charge on Jan 12. The charge against Spears was dismissed after investigating officers termed the accident 'unavoidable.' Spears told Hwy Patrol officers that Freels walked in front of his truck. (Morgan County News)

TN. Peggy was born in Camp Lejune, North Carolina and attended school in
Victoria Park California as well as UCLA. Following school, Peggy served
in the US Navy with honorable discharge. She was an accomplished musician
and singer with a great love for dancing. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking,
and bowling, and her pets, Augustus and Prince. Peggy was a dedicated and
long time employee with Emory Valley Center, and had a great compassion
for special needs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Nadine
McHaffie of Indiana. She is survived by the love of her life for 37 years

She has lived in Swansea for 15 years and was a member of the Saint Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church of Swansea, S.C. She was preceded in death by her father, James L.C. Maston. HOMER DAVID, 65, passed away Tuesday Jan. 15, 2002 at his home in Wartburg.
He was a veteran of the US Navy and a member of the First Baptist Church
of Wartburg. His hobbies were building watches and clocks and photography.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Watson French, brother,
William Harley French. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law,
John and Cindy French of Kingston, daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and
Jim Mowery of Philadelphia, two granddaughters, Shannon French and Sarah
Mowery, two sisters and brother-in-laws Mary and James Morgan of Clinton

FREYTAG, DOROTHY L., 91, died at 11:53 p.m. April 10, 2010, at her daughter's residence in Bluffton. She was born July 25, 1918, in Lancing, Tenn., to James Albert and Mary M. Bronstetter Howard, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 19, 1933, she married Clifford W. Freytag, who died Jan. 2, 1984. Mrs. Freytag, along with her husband of 50 years, raised 15 children and numerous grandchildren and also any other child in need. She did not know a stranger and welcomed anyone to her dinner table. She was a baptized Jehovah's Witness since 1968 and a member and pioneer working for the East Congregation. She conducted 12 home Bible studies at one time. She loved to reminisce. She enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers and herbs. She knew everything about flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren grow up. Her final days she enjoyed living in the home of and heckling with Dick Davis. Survivors include seven sons, Robert (Barbara) Freytag, of Harrod, Albert (Lynn) Freytag, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Frederick (Marlene) Freytag, of Webster Springs, W.Va., Conway (Roseann) Freytag, Harvey (Linda) Freytag, and Gregory Freytag, all of Lima, and Curtiss Freytag, of Alger; seven daughters, Floy King, of Alger, Brenda Minor, of Lima, Phyllis (Farrell) Welch, of Celina, Frances Esmonde, of Lima, Leathe "Becky" (Richard) Davis, of Bluffton, Violet (Octavio) Cruz, of Elida, and Sheila (James) Dilts; 57 grandchildren; 132 great-grandchildren; and 57 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Hall, of Painesville; and numerous stepgrandchildren and

FREYTAG, SUSIE ALBERNACE HAWN, 84, passed away March 8, 2003 in the Life Care Center of Morgan County. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave L. FREYTAG, MS. ETHEL HELEN, age 93 of Wartburg, passed away quietly at the Lifecare Center of Morgan County on February 15, 2005 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert L. and Maude N. Freytag; Brothers, Fred, Jack, Albert Jr., Maxwell, Kenneth, William and Leon Freytag; Sister, Marjorie Dean Redmon. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Affectionately known as "Miss Ethel," she was a lifelong resident of Morgan County and was a descendant of one of the earliest settling families. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Wartburg. Miss Ethel dedicated her life to researching the history of Morgan County. She was a published author, revered local historian, and a devoted teacher of more than 40 years. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Lifecare Center of Morgan County for being such loving caretakers to Miss Ethel during her time there. She moved to Coalfield in early childhood and continued to live there until her move to Oak Ridge in 1994. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Before retirement she worked for over 35 years at Burlington Hosiery in Harriman. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry Ashley and Lillie Brewer Ashley, by her husband Donald Fritts, by a son Ronnie Beck and by several sisters and brothers. GEORGE "JIGGS" - age 84, a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs, died
Monday, December 21st, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Fritts was born September
24th, 1925 in Oliver Springs. Following his high school graduation he entered
into the military where he served his country in the United States Armed
Forces. Following his military discharge, he worked as a salesman for a
welding supply company. He attended Coal Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed
gardening and working in his yard. Mr. Fritts was preceded in death by
his parents, John Fritts and Lillie Walls Fritts; by wife, Ila Mae Adcock
Fritts; by brothers, John Fritts, Jr., Jimmy Fritts, and Charles Fritts;
by sisters, Josephine Padavick and Otella Harvey; and by a son-in-law,
Allen Brown. He is survived by his children, Karen Denise Brown of Oliver
Springs, and Doug Fritts and wife, Beth, of Englewood, Ohio; by sisters,
Grace Smith and husband, Howard, of White Pine, Tennessee and Anna Jo Sweeney
and husband, Dennis, of Lenoir City; by foster sisters, Joyce Dawson and

FULP, DOUGLAS
D., age 73, a resident of Coalfield, died Saturday, December 12, 2009
at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Mr. Fulp was born February
5, 1936 in Aurora, Missouri. Following his 1954 Aurora High School graduation
he entered into the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country
for twenty-five years, two months and fourteen days. His foreign service
duty included tours in France, England, and three tours in Viet Nam. While
serving in Europe he was distinctively selected to serve on the Presidential
color guard for the late President, John F. Kennedy. The color guard traveled
with the President and presented the U.S. Flag and military colors at several
European cities and the Berlin Wall.Mr. Fulp received several decorations,
medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons, including the Department
of Air Force Commendation Medal on June 9, 1969. Additionally he was awarded
a "Welcome Home" medal, medallion, and certificate of recognition from
the State of Missouri for his service in Viet Nam. Following retirement
from the Air Force, Doug was employed by and retired from the City of Winston-Salem,
NC, in the Traffic Engineers Division. He was a member of Pleasant Grove
Baptist Church in Coalfield, where he attended the Adult Men's Sunday School
Class. He loved the Pleasant Grove Church Choir and the fellowship of the
church membership. Doug was very personable with a great sense of humor.
He was often found at a local restaurant engaged in the conversation of
the morning. He wittingly colored up the conversation armed with a great
knowledge of current events and world affairs. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Melvin D. Fulp and Vera Logan Fulp Ford, his maternal grandparents
Hiram Herschal and Jessie Edith Frazier Logan, paternal grandparents Robert
Lee and Flora Ann Moore Fulp. He is survived by his devoted wife of 22
years, Kathleen Jackson "Kitty" Fulp, by his former wife and the mother
of his children, Clara M. Fulp, by children; Karen Sue Adams and husband,
Landon, of Sedalia, MO, Michael Fulp of Fort Worth, TX, Gregory Fulp and
wife, Maranda, of Loveland, CO, and Gay Lynn Salmons and husband Leonard,
of Smithton, MO, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also
survived by a sister Marilyn S. Gray and husband, Max, of Kansas City,
MO, by special cousins Jack and Gene Fulp, by nieces and nephews; Michelle
Harbaugh, Lisa Pettijohn, Max Gray, Jr., and James Gray, by special long
time friends; Fred Houston, Ronald Grant, Billy and Gwyn Payne, Mack Weatherman,
Eddie Turner and Glenda Sears who introduced Doug to his wife, Kathleen.
Also numerous school mates, Air Force buddies and co-workers who still
keep in touch. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, December
15, 2009, between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church, Fairview Road, in Coalfield. The funeral will follow with Rev.
Todd Hardin and Pastor James Foster officiating. Burial and graveside services
with full military honors will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at
11:00 a.m. at the Estes Cemetery in Coalfield. Members of the Adults Men's
Sunday School Class will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations

FUTRELL, DR. EDWARD 'TOMMY', 67, of 3204 Buckingham Drive, Johnson City, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at his home following an extended illness. Dr. Futrell was a native of Coalfield and had lived in Johnson City for the past 20 years. He was the son of Lewis and Lassie King Futrell, who are deceased. He had been a pastor in East Tennessee for over 30 years and served as a trustee of the North American Mission Board/Home Mission Board. Dr. Futrell was chaplain for the Johnson City Police Department and was the starting member of the volunteer Johnson City Medical Center chaplain staff. He was a member of Clark Street Baptist Church in Johnson City. His family said all who knew him will miss his wisdom, strength, faithfulness and love. Theydescribed him as a steadfast warrior of the faith and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a pastor and mentor who taught through example of his own life, they said. Dr. Futrell is survived by his wife of 46 years, Roberta A. Futrell; two daughters, Denise Futrell of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Deborah Eubank and her husband, Lee, of Somerset, Ky.; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Joe Futrell and Sue and Gilbert Barber, all of Coalfield, Terry and Marsha Futrell of Kingston, Barbara and Franklin "Buddy" Poland of Spring City, and Margaret and James Rather of Oliver Springs. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Elizabeth Whitehouse and Andrew Whitehouse, both of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Saturday night, June 1, at Southside Baptist Church in Johnson City with the Rev. Kenneth Kyker, the Rev. Michael Anglin and the Rev. John Wood officiating. A graveside service was held Sunday, June 2, at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton.
