February 1838 in Ripley Co., MO<br \/>\nd. 1916 in Darien, Dent Co., MO<br \/>\nHe was the son<br \/>\nof<br \/>\nJohn Adam Summers<br \/>\nand<br \/>\nVirginia Carolina Jane Baumgarter<\/p>\n<p>John Adam b. 1805 emigrated from Morgan Co., TN with most of the rest of his family including his mother when he and his brothers returned to Morgan County after a scouting expedition into Missouri to get the lay of the land.<\/p>\n<p>John Adam&#8217;s father was<br \/>\nJohn Henry Summers<br \/>\nb. 1780 in Lexington, Newberry Co., S.C.<br \/>\n~~<br \/>\nJohn Henry died in Morgan County in 1840, while his sons were away in MO.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>JAMES WINFIELD SUMMERS<\/b>(a later photo above)<br \/>\nJesse died in 1916.\u00a0 He was being operated on for a hernia.\u00a0 They were ready to close the incision and the table collapsed causing his death.<br \/>\n(Source: Ozark Heritage 1994, Pg 365)<\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/morganco\/photoalbum\/AdaCox.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"471\" \/><\/td>\n<td>Identification of this photo was made by<br \/>\n<b>ADA FLORENCE COX SMITH\u00a0<\/b><br \/>\nof Missouri. She is at present 106 years old!<br \/>\nA granddaughter of Ada&#8217;s by the name of Barbara is one of my Summers contacts in Missouri.\u00a0 She sent me the picture of the Older Jesse and when my husbandand I saw it we were pretty sure it was the same man in our &#8216;Unknown&#8217; picture.<br \/>\nI e-mailed a copy of the &#8216;Unknown&#8217; to Barbara, and she showed it to her Grandmother, Ada and she confirmed that it was Jesse Winfield.<br \/>\nJesse Winfield was Ada&#8217;s Gr. Uncle.\u00a0 She was 22 when Jesse died, so she remembers him very well. I&#8217;m attaching a picture of Ada as a young woman as well.\u00a0 She remains relatively healthy at 106, and still has a sharp mind and many stories to tell about her family history.\u00a0 How fortunate we are to still have her with us.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8211;<br \/>\nObituaty of Ada Smith:<br \/>\n&#8220;Ada Florence Smith was born October 10, 1894 in Rector, MO to George Washington Cox and Rebecca (Summers) Cox.\u00a0\u00a0 She was the youngest of nine children.\u00a0\u00a0 She passed away at her home in Hartshorn, MO on October 21, 2001 at the age of 107 years.&#8221;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00a0Another interesting note:<br \/>\nThe Summers Brothers that left Morgan Co, TN<br \/>\nestablished the small town of Summersville, Texas Co., Missouri.\u00a0 It was named in their honor.\u00a0\u00a0 This photo of Summersville&#8217;s Main Street taken before<br \/>\nthe turn of the century.\u00a0 Today the population of Summersville boasts only a few hundred souls.\u00a0<\/td>\n<td><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/morganco\/photoalbum\/Summersvillemainstreet.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"200\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>Photos and information courtesy of Donna Summers<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jesse Winfield Summers Previously unidentified!
