JONES FAMILY GATHERING – 2004

This year\u2019s Jones Family Gathering was held on\u00a0October 10, 2004, at the\u00a0Sunbright\u00a0Community Center.\u00a0\u00a0Over 50 people were in attendance and there were 6 states represented.<\/p>\n

We welcomed new family members from other branches of the Shadrack and Mary Ann Davis- Jones tree.\u00a0\u00a0Descendants were not only from Jeremiah and Louisa Stonecipher-Jones, but also included those descended from Samuel and Mary \u201cPolly\u201d Guffey-Jones and John Jackson and Elizabeth Jones.<\/p>\n

During the time of gathering, a booklet of compiled newspaper clippings about various family members was enjoyed and used as a topic of discussion to become acquainted with and renew ties with each other.\u00a0\u00a0The potluck meal was both delicious and plentiful, with desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth preference.<\/p>\n

Following the meal, introductions were made in relationship to who they were descended from.\u00a0\u00a0We also had the opportunity to learn more about our other related surnames of Scottish descent, complete with a demonstration of traditional attire given by A. Joseph Guffey.<\/p>\n

Jones Family Gathering 2003<\/span><\/span>
\n~<\/p>\n

The second annual Jones Family Gathering was held Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the Elgin Community Center.\u00a0 We welcomed many returning folks from last year, in addition to many first time attendees.\u00a0 There were over 50 people in attendance, representing 7 states and several counties in Tennessee.\u00a0 Our family is beginning to expand, as a descendant of the John Jackson Jones family [Jeremiah\u2019s brother] joined us.\u00a0\u00a0 Pictures of past generations, as well as last year\u2019s gathering were displayed and enjoyed.<\/p>\n

Following a bountiful meal, each family was introduced by the family lines descending from Jeremiah and Louisa Stonecipher-Jones.\u00a0 We singled out some of the group by asking for the oldest mother \u2013 Lela Jones-Pierce; oldest father \u2013 Fred Pierce; youngest mother \u2013 Tabatha Robbins-Sims; youngest father \u2013 Jim Jones; one traveling the farthest \u2013 Joe and Judi Guffey; and the one who could name all 13 of Jeremiah and Louisa\u2019s children \u2013 or at least as many as they could \u2013 Cindy Smith-Boyer with runner-up, Pat Pierce-Goss.\u00a0 Prizes were bottles of Jones Soda.<\/p>\n

We look forward to our next Gathering.\u00a0 Plans are to include those descendants not only of Jeremiah and Louisa Stonecipher Jones, but also those of Jeremiah\u2019s siblings which include:\u00a0 Creesy Jones, b. 1821, NC; Elizabeth Jones, b. 1823, TN; Samuel Jones, mrd. Mary \u201cPolly\u201d Guffey; Katherine Jones, b. 1832, TN; Larkin Jones, b. 1835, TN; John Jackson Jones mrd. Elizabeth; Josiah H. Jones mrd. Catherine; Ervin Stephen Jones mrd. The first annual “Jones Family Gathering” was held on Saturday, October 12, 2002 at the Grey Gables Bed and Breakfast Inn, Rugby, TN.\u00a0\u00a0 The day was held in celebration of early Morgan County settlers, Jeremiah and Louisa Stonecipher-Jones.\u00a0\u00a0 It was a priceless time for all those who were able to gather together. Since this is a branch of our family tree that has been basically undiscovered, we all learned just how vast our family is and enjoyed sharing about where the last year of discovery has brought us and what potential the year to come holds.
\nMany hours of research time at the Wartburg Library and in Nashville went into connecting this family.\u00a0 The Internet then allowed this fragmented and scattered family to reunite.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019ve Got Mail\u201d<\/i><\/b>\u00a0became a very welcome \u2018voice\u2019 as relationships began and have grown even stronger through a family site provided through the services of MyFamily.com.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nOur Entertainment<\/i><\/b>As the family gathered together that day, local musician, Gerald Henwright, provided our music. He set up on the front porch of the inn and was a welcoming sound to those as they arrived.\u00a0 The chair he sat in to play was made by Perry O. Jones, a grandson of Jeremiah and Louisa, about 1937 for John S. Jeffers.
\nFor the next hour or so, folks enjoyed conversation, along with family displays that were provided by those who came.<\/p>\n
\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

\nLouisa Stonecipher was born in April of 1835 to Thomas and Elender Goddard-Stonecipher.\u00a0 Thomas was the son of Ezra and Susanna Curtis-Stonecipher.\u00a0 Ezra built the house known as the \u2018Kelly House\u2019 in 1814.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n

\nA group went out to see the lone grave of Shadrich Jones, the man who is thought to be the father of our Jeremiah.\u00a0\u00a0 Much work has been done by Alonzo Jones and Kenneth Burchfield [great grandchildren of Jeremiah] in cooperation with property owner, Joe Phillips, to prepare an entry to the grave site.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
