UNDERWOOD, ARRON CHARLES “DOC”, 57, Sunbright, passed away Tuesday evening, May 3, 2005 in Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was an employee of Highland Telephone Cooperative for 40 years. He served as executive representative for Highland with Communications Workers of America, Local 3805. He also served his community as a member of the board of directors of the Sunbright Utility District. He was of the Christian faith and he loved his family, his crew and his dogs. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Pearson Underwood; daughter and son-in-law, Kim (Underwood) and Billy Glen Kennedy; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Sherri Underwood; grandsons, Drew and Dylan Kennedy; parents, Aaron Leslie and Aileen Hawn Underwood; sister and brother-in-law, Sondra (Underwood) and Perry Spurling; nephew, Aaron Spurling and wife Lesley; numerous other relatives and friends and his entire family of co-workers at Highland.
Visitation was held Friday, May 6, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral immediately following in the chapel. UNDERWOOD, HAROLD LLOYD, Livingston — Graveside services for Harold Lloyd Underwood, 74, of Cookeville, were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Good Hope Cemetery. Mr. Underwood died on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, in Masters Health Care Center in Algood. He was born on Jan. 7, 1930, in Morgan County to the late Lloyd and Edna Smith Underwood. He was owner/operator of a trucking company and a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Underwood was an Air Force veteran. His family includes his wife, Betty Underwood of Cookeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and JoAnn Underwood of Commerce Township, Mich.; a daughter, Cindy Underwood of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Joey and Kristina Underwood; and two half sisters, Brenda Mitchell of Tennessee, and Judy Mitchell of Florida. UNDERWOOD, MAGGIE, 97, Sunbright, died Monday evening, Aug. 15, 2005 in the Life Care Center of Morgan County. She was a member of the Sunbright First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Minnie Jane Brock Underwood. UNDERWOOD, MRS. MARIE, of Oak Ridge, (formerly of Pilot Mtn.), passed away Sunday March 14, 2010. She was born in Deer Lodge, Tn to Byge and Lucretia Scott. She was preceded in death by sister; Avo Wright, nephew; Howard Wright and husband Lloyd Underwood. Marie is survived by daughters; Brenda (Wayne) Mitchell of Louisville, Tn, Judy Reamer (Byron) Reamer of Spring Hill, FL, grandsons; Mike MitchellDan (Carissa) Mitchell of Louisville, Tn, Mitch Collins of Orlando, Fl and Cory Miller of Dunedin, Fl. and one niece Bobbie Hammons of Dyllis, Tn and several other family members and friends. Marie grew up in Deer Lodge, Tn and lived most of her life in Pilot Mtn. where she enjoyed cooking, quilting and spending time with her family. She and her late husband Lloyd owned and ran Underwood Grocery in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Marie attended Pilot Mtn. Missionary Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. She had lived at Callaghan Towers in Oak Ridge for the past 29 years. The family will receive friends Saturday March 20, 2010 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. UNDERWOOD, MRS. VANNIE OLA WATSON, a resident of Rossville for the past 55 years, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003. Mrs. Underwood was born in Oakdale, Tennessee a daughter of the late Houston and Blanche Coffman Watson. She retired from Kmart after 16 years and had been employed by Wal-Mart for the past 10 years. She had been a member of South Rossville Baptist Church and its Esther Sunday School Class for more than 55 years. Mrs. Underwood was the widow of Charles L. “Buster” Underwood. Her survivors are son, William Wade Underwood, Rossville; brother, Billie Watson, Oakdale; five sisters, Mona Powell, Rockwood, TN., Irene Helton, Dorothy Summers, and June Horton, Oakdale, TN. UEHLEIN, LILA BANKS, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, following complications due to pneumonia. She was born on December 26, 1935 in Burnsville, N.C. She graduated from Central High School in Wartburg, where she was a star basketball player. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she worked for the May Company retail chain until her retirement. During her residence in Cincinnati she was a championship bowler, both individual and team. After her retirement she moved to Knoxville to be near her sisters and family. She went to work for the University of Tennessee and retired after several years of loyal service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lois (McCurry) Banks of Yancy County, N.C. She is survived by two sisters, Mable (Banks) Sumner and husband Glen of Knoxville and Jean (Banks) Sampson and husband Charles of Knoxville; brother, John Henery Banks and wife Christine of Greenville, N.C.; nieces, Myrna Gail Sumner of Wartburg, Tracy (Sumner) Duncan of Lenoir City and Lois (Banks) Gray of Greenville, N.C.; nephews, Bob Sampson, Bill Sampson, both of Knoxville, and John Banks Jr. of Greenville, N.C.; aunts, Myrtle Hare of Ashville, N.C., and Bernice McCurry of Burncville, N.C.; and many cousins and dear friends. UNGER, OTTO R., Word was received of the death of Otto R. Unger, 79, of Kansas City, Mo., who died suddenly at his home in that city at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. He was a native of Oakdale, Tenn. He met his wife, Miss Dora Goehringer, daughter of the late, Rev. J. G. Goehringer, when her father was pastor of the Lutheran church at Wartburg, Tenn. The couple was married after the Goehringer family moved to Staunton on Oct. 18, 1905. He was a retired signal engineer of the Missouri Pacific railroad and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Kansas City, Mo. He leaves his wife, several nieces and nephews.
