SMITH, Junius Stoddard—was born in Marion Township, Livingston County, Michigan on May 30, 1843 and passed away Sept. 18, 1924, aged 81 years and four months, at his home in Burrville, Tenn., where he has resided for the past 41 years. At the age of 18 he enlisted in Co. H. 22nd Mich. Volunteer Infantry and served his country for 3 years taking part in many battles and being severely wounded at the battle of Chickamauga, Tennessee.
On Dec 20th, 1870 he was married to Rachel E. BEACH. To them was born one son, Gus B. SMITH of Marion and two daughters, Nona and Lola SMITH, who with the wife, are left to mourn their loss. One sister, Mrs. Chas. COX of Howell, Mich. also survives him. In 1883, failing health compelled him to leave his home in Mich. and the family moved to Burrville, Tennessee where they have since resided. Twenty-five years ago he united with the Congregational Church of Deer Lodge, Tenn. And lived and died trusting in his God. Although an invalid and a great suffering for 45 years and helpless for the last 25 years of his life, he was always cheerful and patient, never complained and enjoyed the companionship of his many friends up to the very end. The funeral which was held on Sept. 20th, in the church at Burrville, Tenn., and burial in the cemetery at that place was attended by a large number of friends.
