Lt. Col. John Leslie Davidson (1907-2009) Retired’ 102, died Mar. 16, 2009 in Augusta, GA. He was the 6th of 9 children born on a cotton farm in South Dallas County, TX on Mar 18, 1907 to William Gilbert and Augusta Hull Davidson. John was with the 69th Div. in Europe during WWII; and had a distinguished military career, serving until 1961, mostly in the Far East. He was a lifelong Christian and a Mason. He was also an accomplished writer, sculptor and gardener.
John’s father, William Gilbert Davidson (1867-1938); grandfather, Joseph Warren Davidson (1838-1902); great grandfather, William Lee Davidson (1811-1890) were all born in Morgan County. His great, great, great grandfather Col. William Lee Davidson (1746-1828) was an office in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War.
