(From the Anderson County News – Appeared in Morgan County News March 7, 1929)
After July 1st there will be no hasty marriages in Tennessee. A new law signed by the Governor requires the posting of public notice with the County Court Clerk of intention to wed of all couples where the man is under 21 and the woman under 18 years of age. The Parents of the girl must make affidavit as to her age, or the girl may appear in person and file oath. The law intended to decrease the number of hasty marriages which are engaged in the “please don’t publish” variety.
