IT MUST OVER A HUNDRED YEARS OLD
” That was the comment of Ben Jacks of Lancing to Frank Hoskins of Oliver Springs as they look over the log house at the “French Hamby Farm south of Wartburg. The log structore now used as a barn is the FRED AND AUGUSTA ENGERT old home-place. Bill Engert and his sister, Mrs. Clara Wallace of Oakdale, were reared there. Gus Bardill, now of Knoxville, who owned the farm until a few years ago, visiting in Wartburg recently, said he moved into the house in 1906 and lived there a few years before building a new house. Mr. Bardill recalled that they told him when he moved there that it took three men and two women to put the plate log in place. To reach the farm take either the Potters Fall road in Wartburg or the Armes Chapel Road off of 27 south of Wartburg.”
