WILLIAM WALLACE BARKSDALE, JR.
1. William Wallace’s g’father, Wilson Barksdale, of English ancestry moved to C’ville from Todd Co., KY and in 1878 purchased the newspaper, “Tobacco Leaf Chronicle."
2. William Wallace’s father, who was William Wallace, SR. became
eventual owner, publisher and editor of the "Leaf Chronicle".
3. William Wallace Barksdale, Jr. became publisher and editor of
the “Daily Star”. Awarded both the Purple Heart and bronze Star for
his WW II war service, he afterwards was elected mayor of C’ville. He died
in office in 1961.
4. Barksdale School is named for William Wallace Barksdale, JR.
