Whitfield Killebrew (1790-1859)
War of 1812 Soldier

 

Whitfield Killebrew was a soldier under Jackson and in the Battle of Tohopeka, or the Horse Shoe, March 27, 1814, which terminated the Creek War.  During that engagement a bullet fired by an Indian warrior scraped the top of his head, clearing a path through his hair, but not wounding him.  He saw his enemy when he fired and immediately afterwards shot him dead.

Whitfield Killebrew lived his entire life in Montgomery County, and is buried in the Osborn and Killebrew Cemetery.
